As i'm studying on the electrical side, i can say that removing your batteries will save some charge on the batteries. In simple terms, a battery that is not in the camera all the time will hold the charge longer. Do note that the charge on a battery will decrease over time, if not used. Due to electrical diffusion to the surroundings.

A lens hood prevents flaring. A lens hood is not a must, but you can get them if wanted. I have about 2 lens hoods for my lenses. A dry cabinet is useful, but a dry box should be alright as well. Have filters for the lenses, so that any accidental damage falls on the filter and not on front element of the lens. Something like sacrificial protection.:sweat:
