So it means should i buy 50-200mm lens or get another brand? I am not sure what lens are compatible with an adapter. Which is more worth it? Buying an adapter with a lens? Or just buy an olympus lens?

Just buy an Olympus lens :)

Prove your friends wrong by improving your photos standard. ChAnging to canon or Nikon won't help u.

What's your photography skill level/aptitude? If you're only a beginner (or a point & shooter), it's not recommended you start using legacy lenses at this point...the biggest issue is you don't have a focusing aid on (most) dSLR cameras (microprism, etc.)...there's no way to tell the lens is in focus other than using your eye (unless you get an adapter ring with a focus confirmation chip).

As well you have to use stop-down metering, and know how to use A or M modes; those are the only modes that you can use these lenses with as you have to control the aperture manually as there's no computer control from the camera.

Here's a site that explains using legacy lenses and adapters:
http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/43/any-lens.html

As well here's a site that has a LOT of information about Oly cameras in general:

Just a personal note, Canikon users won't be any more impressed because you have a Canon or Nikon lens on your non Canikon camera...they just see that you're not using a Canon or Nikon and hold their noses; they don't know any better!

This is a real help! Thanks! I am a beginner. Still learning lots of stuff. Thanks you for the information. :) Will try to improve myself and stick to my lovely olympus. :)

I am so confused why people are using canon rather than olympus. Canon does have more variety for lens and cameras. But canon is becoming a trend. People are saying my olympus e-620 is not good while having a canon 1000d is good enough. Sometimes, i feel like changing my system to canon. Any opinions on this issue?

If you need to change to Canon, go ahead and change. Be trendy. Spend your money. Get a Canon.

Hope you ACTUALLY take better pictures.

As far as I'm aware, you cannot mount Canon EOS lenses onto 4/3rd cameras. Canon FD lenses can be mounted, but will not focus to infinity. Using an adapter won't affect the image (adapters are usually just rings of metal).

There are adapters for these lenses
Olympus Film (OM Mount)
Nikon (Nikon F Mount)
Leica R (R, not M!)
Contax/Yashica (CY Mount)

However, you will have to focus manually, and can only set the aperture via the aperture ring on the lens. This usually means using film lenses that are at least 20 or 30 years old.

Great fun though, I have 5 of these lenses already :bsmilie:

All Canon FD lens can be mounted on 4/3 and M4/3 and all will focus to infinity... :)

Cheers

woah serious? means i don't have to mount an adapter in order to use a canon fd lens?

You will always need an adapter since its different mount,he's saying some lenses don't focus at inifnity

Olympus E330 can hold its ground pretty well against other system especially when u pair it with 70-300mm, its 4/3 sensor range allow my aging E330 have better reach. Olympus is very sharp and good colour WHEN THERE IS GOOD LIGHT. Some camera needs more light than others. Of course, all cameras even Leica and Hassalbad need to have light to take picture in the law of physics.

Olympus is a good light camera. Please note it is "good light" and not "good" and "light" as separate words. Its output can beat crap out of other brands if you know how to use it properly.

good light? what does it exactly mean? relating to exposure?

Aiyah, its a matter of choice mah..

;)"Good light" means plentiful of natural light.

I managed to get very good YuLong Xue Shan pics and Impression LiJiang using this olympus E330 with 70-300mm combo workhorse. No special special expensive setup like other major brand. Pic sharp sharp:) Sorry unable to share with you here in the forum.:)

To make use of of camera gear, we have to understand the optimum "process window" of our gear. Olympus is king of the hill when there is good lighting, but things changed when light condition turns poor.

Really hope to see the Olympus Next Gen E3 replacement model. Asia Cnet carried an article that mentioned on "modular" E3 replacement DSLR. Hopefully, Olympus can get our prayer answered soon. It is already 3yrs since E3 is launched in 2007.

Haha, cool, but for the last part,I have no comments on that :bsmilie: but as long one is happy, that's good enough:cool:

the modular E-X camera is still just a rumor, whether or not it will be,is a different story, personally,I think its cool but not practical for me at the moment. I think that at most, it'd be another year before the new E-X is out, don't think they'll go beyond the period from E-1 to E-3

I think only very few people are qualified to actually compare brands because you need to use multiple systems, each extensively to judge. And then personal preferences will come in too. If you're happy with your system, there's no reason why you should switch (unless you've tried another system yourself and think it's much better).

That link above answers it all. I don't know of any other camera that'll let me shoot in JPEG for almost everything. :bsmilie:

@Spidey: haha, I also no comments... Low light is a problem? Really??

I know I'm not Spidey, but low light has been a problem for Olympus for a very long time. They improved things a lot with the E-3 but Olympus just haven't done well. It's a bit sad since their microscope business probably has to be very good with lower levels of light. They were rather good in the film days by bringing a brighter viewfinder than all of the competition.

It's sad though that people are so ready to follow what their friend's mother's brother's friend's neighbour said about Canikon being the best.

Well... put it this way, its personal, like I've said before, today's 1600 and 3200 are pretty good, coming from the film days like others in this forum,I've learnt to accept what I have and work around what I have,a problem is a problem only if you deem it a problem rather than a set back that you can work around, honestly speaking,I'm not 100% sure what I'm saying now :bsmilie: but yea... in summary, its personal and it depends from person to person, to work around it or not

Quite true,as said many times, not everyone is the same,I like apple and you like banana,i hate spicy stuff others love it :bsmilie:
