[ Rubbish Thread ] Why so many people use canon rather than olympus?

Stop being so brand concious. When you 1st bought your e-620, i'm sure you felt that its a good camera right? Then that is good enough. Go and learn more about your camera and shoot more to improve your techniques. What people say about your camera is NOT important, what people say about your pictures does.

I think you are so right! I should stick to my olympus. I really love it. My mum is buying a e-p1. Any opinion on this? Whats the diff between e-620 and e-p1 apart from video. I am not sure myself wat pen series really is.

I am so confused why people are using canon rather than olympus. Canon does have more variety for lens and cameras. But canon is becoming a trend. People are saying my olympus e-620 is not good while having a canon 1000d is good enough. Sometimes, i feel like changing my system to canon. Any opinions on this issue?

If you don't know what you want then just join the crowd. ;)

Most people are sheep and buy without thinking...they see the pros using Canon so they buy one too, except the pro uses cameras and lenses costing thousands of dollars, and they buy a camera for just a few hundred expecting the same quality.

Another way that people are sheep is they buy something because they already own products made by, for instance they own a Sony TV, Sony VCR, Sony DVD, Sony monitor, Sony laptop, Sony clock radio, etc., so they buy a Sony camera without researching any other brands.

Personally I'm allergic to wool so I don't want to be a sheep! In fact when I was choosing my first dSLR I outright rejected Canon and Nikon since the controls on those cameras were so backwards and not intuitive. I do not regret my choice and even bought a second Oly dSLR. I'm the tech guy at a brick & mortar camera club so occasionally I have to help someone out with their Canon or Nikon camera, and I hate every second of trying to figure out those cameras!

next time your friends tell you canon > olympus, show them pictures taken by an olympus that they cannot take with their 1000d, 550d, 50d, 7d, whatever:

Heh.

I fondly remember these photos alright. And to think all the other winners for THAT year use the so called "Big Brands".

I was the photographer for my CCA for 3 years, while training a new junior to take over my post, I used only the E-30, 14-54mm MKII, FL-50R. I had to shoot at ISO1600 and deal with the inability to focus all the time cause I mostly shoot in low lighting. Did I complain?

No. I worked with it and thrived with the system.

My junior used a Nikon D90 and she bitched about it every single time. And mind you, she even complains when using lenses like the 70-200mm II or even a 50m f1.4. That's what I call a GearHead. So busy whining about their "lousy" cameras that they can't even take decent snapshots.

We should not discredit either Canon or Olympus. People used them, people like them.

I have used Canon, Panasonic, Fujifilm, Olympus and Nikon, loves most, hates little. Any camera that can make photos you want to is a good camera.

In this world, there is something called Preference, which is also known as Democracy to me.

Saying only Canon and Nikon r0x now is like saying photography doesn't exist before the 19th century. :)

Seriously alergic or sarcasticly alergic? I know what you mean about figuring out :bsmilie:

I will agree with several others on this forum...Its not the camera, its the photographer that makes the picture!...The best camera is the one in your pocket or bag at the time! I have an extensive Nikon system....(been using Nikons since high school (40 yrs or so), but I also own and really enjoy my Oly e-pl1 and adapters to mount Canon, Nikon, and other glass on it...(I will say that I also own a Canon 5D), I bought it because it was the cheapest full frame that I could buy at the time and I can mount all my Nikon glass on it with an adapter... That's another reason I like the M4/3 systyem, Its very compact and you can get very good images with it with a lot less wieght and size...

Chk this out for a comparison...http://snakephoto.blogspot.com/2010/05/mine-is-bigger-than-yours.html

Cheers :)

Check out this article by Thom Hogan.

My favourite quote - "if you can't get good prints at the maximum size of any desktop inkjet (13x19") from any current DSLR, it's not the camera that's the problem."

hi. thanks for the great info! how do i use canon lens on my olympus e-620? what adapter i have to use? i love to try it out. is using an adapter affects the image?

As far as I'm aware, you cannot mount Canon EOS lenses onto 4/3rd cameras. Canon FD lenses can be mounted, but will not focus to infinity. Using an adapter won't affect the image (adapters are usually just rings of metal).

There are adapters for these lenses
Olympus Film (OM Mount)
Nikon (Nikon F Mount)
Leica R (R, not M!)
Contax/Yashica (CY Mount)

However, you will have to focus manually, and can only set the aperture via the aperture ring on the lens. This usually means using film lenses that are at least 20 or 30 years old.

Great fun though, I have 5 of these lenses already :bsmilie:
