Thoughts on LEICA M ?

I tried the Oly EVF2 on the new Leica M. I'm a believer!! I used thing think that LV was a gimmick, but after testing it out for an hour yesterday I feel that this feature is good enough to justify my upgrade.

The EVF2 is the same size as an optical VF, but this single piece of gear can be used with all my wide angles and my visoflex with 65mm and 90mm with bellows! Really shines with the Visoflex and macro, as the focus peaking helps a lot and there is much less viewfinder blackout compared to using any other film/digital M and visoflex.

I still love using the RF and of course using an optical VF for street shooting. But some types of shots really benefit from using a DSLR type system for framing, long exposures with grad filters or close focus. Perfect for travel, one camera system only! Very happy :D

Thanks for sharing the wonderful shots from m240. Any benefit from using wider angle lense like 24mm > and now with the LV, no need to mount those cumbersome attachment? How's framing these wide angle shots like?

btw, does LV means equiv to mirrorless mode? i.e. reduced shutter movement, thus reduce handshake risk?

thanks bro.

Shutter movement is increased, as the camera has to close the shutter, then open and close again to take the shot. This results in shutter lag. Btw it's quite good for wide angles, 100% framing like an SLR. But there is some lag in the EVF of course, unlike using an optical VF.

Thanks bro, I thought I read the contrary? So I assume double risk of camera shake + lag using LV? Gee, thank for the info, will note it.

M240 improves the usability of digital rangefinder cameras, LV turns it into a mirror less camera. However the manual focus, no stability aid and shutter lag makes it no match against top end DSLRs offered by Nikon and Cannon.

If taking sports and wildlife shots are not your top priority and you want superior optics, Leica M can offer users a one system solution that offers best optics money can buy and a compact digital camera that offers some respect.

On the subject of wide angle lenses. I was comfortable to shoot my 21mm SEM on my M9 with no wide viewer attached after some experience.

With the availability of LV from M240, I traded my 21mm SEM for a 21mm Lux which allows me to precisely focus on my subject @f1.4 on shallow DOF. Same application for LV on my 35mm Lux and 90mm APO.

Thanks, I wonder how effective is the flow of using focus peaking combine LV via the LCD? too much hassle and high chance of missing the moment? Does it feel akward?

The advantage of LV over DSLR's OVF is it offers 10x zoom on subject for precise focusing with focus aid (very effective). However you need enough time to switch to 10x and back before shooting. LCD is not helpful in precise focusing especially with a telephoto/zoom lens. One needs the EVF for smooth flow.

As does my Sony RX1 ;) lol

You actually expect ppl to respect you just becos u shoot with an M9-P ?! Seriously? :bsmilie:

Professional photojournalist Benlowy recently produced an impressive project shot exclusively with an iPhone. (Check it out: iSee and iLibya). I really have great respect for him.

NO i don't. See post prior....... " Leica M can offer users a one system solution that offers best optics money can buy and a compact digital camera that offers some respect. "

I think he more likely meant that the camera is respectable and not the camera offers the user respect.

Try not to be too literal.

Anyone has the same problem as me? The ledge of the battery plate keep falling out, it wouldn't stick inside its holding position.

Basically the lock for the batt plate won't stap in its position after you push it in. When I start using the camera, the lock will be dangling.

Can try tightening the screw from the inside. Not really sure if it'll fix it but that's the first thing I see when I look at mine.

So does yours have the same problem?
