Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 Specification

Thanks man. I already know the answer. Hehe

The "LX3 killer" is a gimmick used by Samsung for marketing purposes. I believe majority EX1 users don't think like that. After seeing the lousy LX5 sample shots, I think "LX3 killer" is not realistic, even Panasonic themselves are unable to come out with a better camera to kill LX3 after 2 years. Unless the camera makers can come up with a new and cheaper technology for compact camera, there is no way to achieve that with a small sensor and fixed lens.

i wouldnt say lousy just yet, have to wait for my chance to do or dpreview post side by side comparison.

why i trust dpreview's review is i also have my reservation of claim that cameras sent to dpreview would be faulty, especially when there is 2 set. i come from r&d and sample preparation to customers engineering background.

I also hope that LX5 is a "LX3 killer", given that LX5 is produced by Panasonic themselves 2 years after LX3 debut. As a consumer, we always like to see new technology come out to improve our photos quality while paying the price of a compact camera range.

Also, I remember reading a rumor that a Leica version of the LX5 will also come out.

Why you still want to talk about "LX3 killer" this words? Is there something that bother u? Let's discuss the function and etc. Wait for the product relase then discuss the pic. Don't hog on the word like "LX3 killer".

Well, lx3 killer in the sense that a new compact camera which is much better than a 2-year-old LX3. As a consumer, don't you want to see something much better after 2 years? I'm not bias to any brand but just like to see great improvement in the compact cameras.

i think because LX3 is such a good p&s, everyone use it as yard stick, everyone want to have a "LX3 killer".

I shill not comment anymore. Since the spec is out. I will wait for item to release. If it is good, I might purchase it and do a full SG version review with LX3. Hopefully, lets wait.....

Good day then.

I would, provided there is some major break thru or upgrade. But sadly, base on the release notes from the net, it does not lor. I don't mind sharing the review to everyone if i got it.

Hmm .. who knows, maybe i might get LX5 and pass the LX3 to my buddy .. hahah ...
Hopefully i can use back my full accessories on Lx5 ..

Yup. If lx5 can use lx3's toys.. Dun mind getting it:devil:

Samples are already on Dpreview

Gosh! I almost buy a S90.... ;) Not sure when will reach SG.... ;p

To me, I dun mind upgrading to LX5 if the ISO performance is really good and am also attracted to the EVF and the dial for manual mode usage, but the pic quality seems abit worrying, doesnt look stunning like LX3...

I'm wondering how many of you will shoot photos at ISO400 and above using a compact camera. For me, I usually compare the compact cameras at ISO400 and below. I think this is more realistic for a compact camera.
I will never shoot photos above ISO400 as I cannot accept any obvious noise in the photos.:dunno:

LX3 Vs LX5 comparison

LX5 has less noise but I prefer Lx3 color.
Anyway the LX5 image came from a pre-production model

Sorry. I'm back again. After looking at the picture, seem like even the pre-production, the ISO seem ok at high ISO. But something keep buggind me that was, if the Sensor size is the same for both LX3 and Lx5, how come Lx5 got better ISO control ?

Did pana use more processor power for the high ISO setting?

LX5 uses different engine called Venus Engine with Inteligent Resolution Technology. It reduces the noises but at the same time makes the colour not so vibrant.
For me, the colour is more important than high ISO (above 400) for compact camera because anything more than ISO400 will have noice :nono:

The sensors are the same size, but the sensors themselves are not the same.

From the press release:
"The highly acclaimed 10.1-megapixel CCD in the LX3 has been redesigned to achieve the expansion of dynamic range by increasing the sensitivity and the saturation."
