Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 Specification

Nope, it's a literal question.

Why would I want to buy a camera with an f2 lens as one of its selling points, and not use it at that aperture?

Or are you implying that everyone who buys the LX3 or LX5 will only use it for landscapes?

Again, was that a trick question?

No... It's not a trick question. It's how u answer will determine the level of the question. We have lots of ppl here commenting just base on what they read frm somewhere or hear frm some ppl. It's totally wrong perseptation. Do have the heart n forgive their ignorance.

What i meant was my usage in Australia lah  And yes it's not a trick question cos why on earth would i want to shoot my landscape pics in broad daylight using f/2.0? :bsmilie:

Then u might as well shoot everything in f/2.0!

er... snoweagle, my english not very good, but to my understanding, nobody mentioned anything here about shooting landscape at f2 with very high shutter speed in the 1st place, but ur example kept referring to landscape photography. maybe its mis-communication?

Ex1 does not really seem impressive for me to throw LX3 neither LX5 is enough for an upgrade. Seem like Pana have lots to think about. Maybe next samsung EX2 will be better or pana LX7 will be better ...

yes, agreed ... Lx3 still can run for 2 more years at seem ... unless Pana do something better.

If LX5 can have good ISO at 800, that will be something to  about, if not nothing to surprise lor ...

GF1 ISO800 is not good... even with sensor of that size..

No it wasn't, cos i said i was shooting landscapes in Aus.

I wonder whether the given LX5 specs is the full story. Based on what is given currently, there seems little reason to upgrade. Perhaps it is all a marketing push to "refresh" the model in light of its age.

Will Panasonic discontinue the production of LX3 to give way to LX5??

is it sort of stupid to get LX-3 now that LX-5 is out?

Disagree. Better to dump LX3 now before the price dipped like mad. Now still can sell $500 plus, only lose a bit. But when LX5 second hand set comes on board, the LX3 will probably only sell for $300 or less.

Top up some and upgrade to LX5 and you get a new cam with renewed warranty, better feature such as faster AF etc. Keep your LX3 and should you need to spend $$$ to repair, you could have used the money for a nice upgrade instead.

Here's an analogy: You are now stucked with your Pentium 4 notebook and you can not even sell it at 10% of what you paid for.

Just a bit more zoom, larger grip, redesigned hotshoe mount and higher ISO are the main improvements. To me, not so worth an upgrade from LX3 unless u're a new buyer.

Err..then won't those who buy the 2nd hand LX3 be a bigger sucker?

I will have to strongly disagree with u. Doesn't mean any new camera model appears u must upgrade. Like this, u're not into photography or know the true meaning of it but rather just an 'equipment follower' and there's no end to upgrading unless u supply me the money everytime.

To me the so called upgrade ain't significant and doesn't justify a true upgrade.
