OFFICIAL: CANON EOS 6D - User Thread - Part 3

just a random post in this thread haha

been using the 6d now for a couple of months, and I really start to feel how its really worth the money! Switching from a 50d, the jump in ISO performance is really the biggest improvement of all. While the 5d III has more features such as the 61 AF points, i find the 6d still unbeatable in terms of price/performance - last camera i felt to do so was the 7d. Feels good when i'm with several of my friends who use d5100, 550d etc complain about having to barely balance their ISO noise with shutter speed at night/low-light areas haha (not that those cameras are bad for their price point) when i just simply blast up to 6.4k or even 10k ISO

Anyway, I find that even though this camera wasnt made for fast action / events, I still find it manageable to work around the specs of the camera to capture some good shots - for example the modest AF, ive been living with 9/11AF points since my pentax kx / 50d days so 11AF points for me is still acceptable - though not the best, but still somewhat livable. For the student like me, the 6d was the access into the full frame world

For me, since I'm venturing into commercial field I got to decide between 6D and 5D mark iii. 5D mark iii is no doubt good but rather expensive for me to afford.
Unless I have additional income especially from assignment or events helping me to pay for it otherwise I just get the 6D and L lenses for the time being.
Great to hear your comment anyway, seems like though 6D isn't that fast so it's up to the photographer skill to work around it.

It's always the photographer..never the equipment..lol patience n anticipation n setting up ur equipment before hand that makes the difference

Agree that no matter which body I go for, ultimately it lies on me and my skill to fully use it.
It's like driving a Ferrari, fast car but if the driver is lousy than the car is good as a normal sedan.
Come to another point is that after I get my first FF DSLR, I will no doubt need to train to prefect it.

Even though the noise control is good, I would still try to keep it below 1000 unless circumstances force me to bump it up. I seldom use above 3200. The noise may look good on surface.but once u crop,it starts to shows up.

Not true.I would say its mainly the photographer but not always.

I think its 60-70% photographer, 30-40% equipment. Small shortfall in either can be compensated by higher performance in the other.

I just realized that the 6D has 2 options of kit lens, the 24-105/f4 and 24-70/f4. Is there something special about the 24-70 f4 that makes it much more expensive than the 24-105/f4? Both have same maximum aperture but the 24-105 has obviously more range while still maintaining f4. Initially I thought it was 24-70 f2.8 so I didn't think anything of it (the price differential) until now when I realized both are constant f4. So what gives?

Hi

anyone of you buy 6D from Artworkfoto? It is grey set with 1 year shop warranty. Do you think it is ok to buy from them?

I've asked before, it's $2150, any manufacturing defect within one year bring back to them, they send in to Csc

Artworkfoto should be reliable. However, I think the price of 6D has fallen for local sets. So check around before getting a grey set. If you are bend on getting a grey set, check out orient photo, in sim lim to compare w artworkfoto.

the 24-70 f/4 has better IQ than the 24-105.
the 24-70 also has a better magnification when comes to macro (although it is still not 1:1 macro)

but i chose the 24-105 as the $1000, and the loss in focal length doesnt make up for its advantages.
i don't pixel peep, so the better IQ is not that much significant to me i guess

It depend on you usage, if you're looking at covering longer distance than get.
You never know whether if you need to shoot a subject far away.
Btw how much is kit 1 selling now?

I was just there after work earlier. 6D + 24-105 @ $2935.

Click quoted local set at slightly over $3.4k.

Of course I try to keep the ISO as low as possible haha, but last time i always get caught in situations where i'm at iso 2000 but the shutter speed is as slow as 1/10. For a 50d anything above ISO 1600 starts to get fuzzy even looking with regular 4R sized photos on screen. With the 6d even with iso 6400 it dosnt look as bad as iso 2000 with a 50d.

I didn't ask but I guess should be around 2.4k+. Artwork foto was selling body only at just under $2000.

If below $2k for body only, it is really good price! I think is justifiable if go grey set with $400 saving.
