Group Exhibition for MF and LF users on CS?

Hello everyone,

Received with thanks on some of your concerns about the showcase. Note that I have changed this from an exhibition to a 'Showcase'.

Here's my official framework for the showcase.

Small people, Big cameras: A medium and large format photography showcase

Submission guidelines:
1. Framed with black border (think IKEA frames)
2. Minimum 16x20 inch print, maximum 1 metre on the longest end. Please PM me in advance if you want to do 1-metre long prints. I for one would like to do so.
3. Payment of SGD 50 as group fund and also to participate in the showcase. Payment details to come after 31 July when we finalize the list of participants.
4. Final print can be digitally scanned+print, darkroom print.
5. SGD 50 will not be refunded even if you decide to back out. It will be used for marketing/publicity/food. Please ensure that you are 100% certain that you want to be in this.

Genre:
No restrictions, but I would give priority to the following - landscapes, architecture, stills, portraits, street, macro.

Restrictions:
No nudity, politically-motivated, racially+religiously insensitive submissions because of potential red tape. It's hard to define these but because I am organizing this, I shall take up the responsibility to assess the images if they fall into those categories.

Quality:
A lot of you have voiced your concerns about the quality control of submissions. I need to state that this is a photography showcase and not a photography exhibition. End of the day, its objective is to promote medium and large format photography and not so much the artistic talent of the individual participants. This is the first time we are doing this and I suggest we take baby steps.

If we are able to run this showcase extremely well, let's aim to do a proper photography exhibition next year, with a solid theme and guidelines (film, camera etc). Let's have a kopi session over this.

That said, I am changing my original plan of participant choosing his/her best shot.

Participants, please email me 5-10 of your best shots. I will take up the responsibility to choose one of those shots for the exhibition. This is to ensure that there is consistency in the photographs and at the very least, provide a bare-minimum quality check. (chen.wei.li@gmail.com)

Ultimately, I reserve the right to reject a participant's submission on the grounds of 1. weak entries 2. violation of my above-stated restrictions 3. Not submitted according to my submission guidelines.

Medium:
All medium format cameras (645, 66, 67, 69), large format cameras, and some pano cameras. To simply put, if you are not shooting on 120 film or 4x5 sheet film, you don't qualify. Digital medium format photography is welcome.

Materials:
1. 250 word photographer bio and about the image (who, what, when, where, how, why)
2. Equipment (camera & lens)
3. Exif data (hahaha) on the image on showcase. camera, lens, film, ISO
4. A statement on why you like MFLF photography

Deadline:
Deadline for participation - 31 July
Payment deadline - 5 August
Printing/Framing deadline - 2 September
Tentative showcase - 10-23 September

Please stick to this deadline closely. Failure to do so and I reserve the right to omit you from the exhibition. However, do email me if you have reasons not able to meet the deadline.

Lastly, I reserve the right to amend any of the above guidelines at my own discretion.

Nice venue for the exhibit! Thanks fei for such kindness. :(need to look for place that do good scan for 617 but fotohub only up to 612:think:

If you need to scan the frame for the showcase, you can choose to pass them to me :) Scans are FOC, including the 5-10 for vetting.

Wrt to framing and printing, is that covered under the $50? Or is covered by the participants? Considering that we are not limiting the sizes, I suppose odd sizes will end up having to make custom frames? Anyp guideline to the framing or standardization? Or up to individual preference?

Those of us on 4x5 and bigger might want to contact richard photolab in usa. They so a do job ( based on reviews from the few top film photogs in the us) i will send some stuff to them in august. Hopefully they can return the scans in time for the exhibition.

I have a 6X6 projector , cassette and also 6X6 frame.

I can put at Good Poison for use.

Bulb converted to super bright LED so no heat generated.

Show case is a good idea. There are no FRPS here.

Exhibition is after a still competition. Hope this can develope into the SALONG photo in the 60s 70s. Ha ha.
FSPS? Fellow of Singapore Photo Shooters??

I think timeline of 31st July a bit tight leh. :o

If a participant's entry/entries do not make the first vet and is rejected, I'd say he/she should have the option to have his/her funds refunded. IMO.

I agree too - can we move it to 20 aug or so? cause printing wont take time once the final images have been decided unless some one is ordering prints from overseas etc.

I for one would like the extention as I am headed to bkk over national day and would like to shoot only mf on this trip so hopefully can get an image or 2 from there

Yeap. If his/her work did not make the cut, there will be a refund, to be fair.

The no refund thing applies to people who back out last-minute.

Ok need to clarify, selection of images can be any time as long as we meet the ultimate printing/framing deadline of 2 Sept.

If you take a nice shot on 1 Sept and some how manage to print/frame by 2 Sept, I'm cool with it.

What do u mean? Shot over seas or people from overseas shoot and send in?

Anywhere also can.

Ok. But not anything.

For medium format, we are to showcase the Quality, Color saturation of MF in a large picture.
By no means we are competing with each other in terms of subject or photo skills. (no FRPS here :) )

It is better if we have a spread of subjects. Individuals can communicate with Sprewell on submission.
And Sprewell can showcase a better spread of subjects.

Those who travel much can show travel photos.
Those who shoot studio much can show pretty woman. (no nudes)
Those who are family fathers can show kiddy's shots.
Those who are into abstract art can show abstract pictures.
Those who are into street can show street photo.
Those who are into macros can show insects.

Sprewell, what is audience? Above RA18? PG? NC?
For studio, no nudes I understand. How about bikini ;)?

hi is it too late to contribute to the exhibition?

Why I no have medium format camera?! Haha

hi is it too late to contribute to the exhibition?

Just saw this thread and I have the same question in mind too, is it too late to contribute to the showcase? Thanks.

All the best guys! :)

Some friendly advice..
Venue and poster must come first. Venue address on poster. Can skip the post cards. Waste $$$.
Some nice exhibition space has all the hanging tools and stuff you need. If they have. Save $$$.
Once Venue is confirm. Than pick a day and collect funding.

Food and drinks are the last to worry about. And what is left $$$ all will go to food and drinks.
So, there will not be any excess of $$$ left. Good luck and I will drop by to support! ;)

Big fan of lcy. ha ha.

I'm at work now but tonight I will PM you on the money thing. Only counts if the money has been transferred. Sorry for being pushy on the money part but it's the best way to deter people who drop off/indicate participation but MIA.

I will of course keep a log of the money spent and will produce the accounts when requested. All receipts and expenditure will be logged.
