Hello everyone,
Received with thanks on some of your concerns about the showcase. Note that I have changed this from an exhibition to a 'Showcase'.
Here's my official framework for the showcase.
Small people, Big cameras: A medium and large format photography showcase
Submission guidelines:
1. Framed with black border (think IKEA frames)
2. Minimum 16x20 inch print, maximum 1 metre on the longest end. Please PM me in advance if you want to do 1-metre long prints. I for one would like to do so.
3. Payment of SGD 50 as group fund and also to participate in the showcase. Payment details to come after 31 July when we finalize the list of participants.
4. Final print can be digitally scanned+print, darkroom print.
5. SGD 50 will not be refunded even if you decide to back out. It will be used for marketing/publicity/food. Please ensure that you are 100% certain that you want to be in this.
Genre:
No restrictions, but I would give priority to the following - landscapes, architecture, stills, portraits, street, macro.
Restrictions:
No nudity, politically-motivated, racially+religiously insensitive submissions because of potential red tape. It's hard to define these but because I am organizing this, I shall take up the responsibility to assess the images if they fall into those categories.
Quality:
A lot of you have voiced your concerns about the quality control of submissions. I need to state that this is a photography showcase and not a photography exhibition. End of the day, its objective is to promote medium and large format photography and not so much the artistic talent of the individual participants. This is the first time we are doing this and I suggest we take baby steps.
If we are able to run this showcase extremely well, let's aim to do a proper photography exhibition next year, with a solid theme and guidelines (film, camera etc). Let's have a kopi session over this.
That said, I am changing my original plan of participant choosing his/her best shot.
Participants, please email me 5-10 of your best shots. I will take up the responsibility to choose one of those shots for the exhibition. This is to ensure that there is consistency in the photographs and at the very least, provide a bare-minimum quality check. (chen.wei.li@gmail.com)
Ultimately, I reserve the right to reject a participant's submission on the grounds of 1. weak entries 2. violation of my above-stated restrictions 3. Not submitted according to my submission guidelines.
Medium:
All medium format cameras (645, 66, 67, 69), large format cameras, and some pano cameras. To simply put, if you are not shooting on 120 film or 4x5 sheet film, you don't qualify. Digital medium format photography is welcome.
Materials:
1. 250 word photographer bio and about the image (who, what, when, where, how, why)
2. Equipment (camera & lens)
3. Exif data (hahaha) on the image on showcase. camera, lens, film, ISO
4. A statement on why you like MFLF photography
Deadline:
Deadline for participation - 31 July
Payment deadline - 5 August
Printing/Framing deadline - 2 September
Tentative showcase - 10-23 September
Please stick to this deadline closely. Failure to do so and I reserve the right to omit you from the exhibition. However, do email me if you have reasons not able to meet the deadline.
Lastly, I reserve the right to amend any of the above guidelines at my own discretion.
