Hi, I bot my 450D during Comex08. I wanted to buy a new lens mostly for indoor portrait and wonder which I one should i buy.

Thinking of either 85mm F1.8 or 135 F2L or may be I should just buy a flash light now.

The reason for buying 135 because I can have 270mm if i buy a 1.4x extender and use it for F1 next year. Still pretty good after extended which have around 2.8 aperture. Not thinking of buying too short because want to take some candid shoots as well.

Any suggestion which lens is better? TIA

Can i also suggest the itinerary for the punggol recce?

Timing are just a guide....

Meet @ punggol MRT 3pm

1) Loc 27,28: 315pm - 345pm ( this place has limited view of the punggol river but nontheless is a good place for shooting.)

3) Location 13-19: 4pm- 515pm(Grass land with nice lalangs, tracks and big canal)

2) Loc 29 : 515pm - 530pm (nv been there but should be similar to 27 and 28)

4) Loc 30-36 : 530pm - 7pm (punggol beach basically, Sunset shots are possible depending on weather)

Not covered are Loc 1 to 11 ( 1-4 is hard to go/ 5-6 is similar to 27-28/ 8-11 might be too common) + Mathilda house

Transportation : Drive + Walk ( if not enough car then all shall walk but timing will be longer.... really longer :D :D)

Open for suggestions~!

I think the 85 and 135 might be alittle tight for portraits. The 50 u have should be sufficient. I see you have the 70 - 200 already, Not good enough for the candids? :dunno:

Must have fast lens then can go right?

Sorry guys but the thread has been alittle fast to catch up with...when is the Punggol recce?

thanks

oops. just noticed the link to the map locations. i'll take a look at it.

no issues with lenses here man. they arent taking sports pics so dun need a fast lens. dun even need flash lor. kit lens will do...i only have kit and 100mm.

70-200 without IS is only good in bright light. That is why wanted to purchase a bigger aperture lens. And also, 50mm not good enough if you are going to car show or any group taking, too short.

One advantage of 135 over 85 is because 135 can use the Canon 1.4x extender. But 85 price is much more affordable. Need think twice.

Sir, dogs run quite fast leh. Considering adding a lens though...I am hoping to go with you guys for fun. Practice Practice...

sorry but from what i saw, it seems like you want to shoot indoor portrait. in that case a short lens would be appropriate coz u dun have much room to move ard. in fact a wide angle near 28mm effective focal length might be necessary if u are taking group photos within a small room. fast lens arent necessary; an external flash would be more useful in indoor portrait purposes.

just my 2 cents
