Yup , true ... Nowadays I just shoot first , then link the camera and phone together , choose photos , send and edit on the go.
Very good for casual shooting.

But of course if u r talking about a more professional level where heavy editing or working with full sized RAW files is needed then the laptop is still indispensable.

Found that my omd paired with a eye fi card, iPad and snapseed combo very suitable for my usage!

Brought my E-P5 out to play with my new 25 1.4. Damn.. Life is so much exciting.

Cosplayers don't like small cameras. :(

haha, u were at the International Cosplay event at Scape?? Share some pics! :)

Probably u don't look Otaku enough (which is a good thing)

Yup. Was there to support a friend actually and snap some photos. I do hope that Panny will add "Leica Summilux" on that lens so that it will help some of us down here to grab some attention. :bsmilie:

I wanted to do this comparison when I first got my EP5.

I'm wondering how does EP5 performs when it places side by side with the very best setup, say, D800E with 24-70. Let's have a look! Please note that this is a simple and non-scientific test, the finding and test method is solely based on user experience only.

DSC_5703.jpg

The photo at the top is taken with D800E with 24-70, the bottom is EP5 with 14-42II.

I choose to conduct the test around 6.30pm. The reason being is the Sun still above the horizon, dynamic range is wide, this is consider a tough condition to get decent result. However, a decent camera can only proof it's value in a tough situation (of course, this is only my opinion. There are dozen of ways to rectify the issue, eg. digital blending).

Both cameras are mounted on tripod, using same setting (in this case, 28mm, 1/13s, F8, ISO 200), shooting in RAW and converted via ACR to ensure the similarity.

The only thing i tweaked here is both photos downsized to 1200 at longer end using CS5. However, I realised a problem when I doing conversion to Jpeg, should I use F4 on EP5 in order to archive the same depth of field? Erm...something to explore during next tryout.

There are a few minor differences i noticed but there is only one I found worth mentioning: the dynamic range. With the measurement of my naked eye, D800E is 1-2 stop wider. The clipped highlight at the cloud gives a hint as well as the body of the boat covered in shadow. In terms of sharpness, it is not fair to compare a kit lens with nikon's jewel on the crown, but the EP5 produces very satisfying result with the little and inexpensive kit lens!

I better stop here before I embarrass myself (or I already did? =P)

I'm looking forward to do more testing of this handsome, little camera.

Also, if anybody got any test idea or interested to join me for testing, I welcome with arms open!

Thank you for your patiences and spent your valuable time to read my post ;)

Interesting test ;) and of course great to read the results.

Prob one thing go with testing is with better glass for the Oly ? try the 12-35 /2.8 on the EP5 vs the Nikon with its own 24-70 mounted.

Heh

Heh

Unfortunately I don't have the 12-35,haha~I think the next thing I want to do the the low light performance.

Btw,I'm experiencing a very slow response of Olympus viewer 3 on my iMac and mac book air. Is there anyone else suffering from the same problem as I do?

The slow response is like after I open a photo in editor and I want to go back to the photo gallery, it can take up to 30 seconds to process it.

Yah, it's slower for me on Mac+PC when compared to v2.

Hmm, I've the 12-35 n if there's a chance we meet for a shoot I definitely won't mind letting u test it :)

Great test. I can't see any diff on my iphone tho. Whatever the case, the bulk and weight of dslr alone juz dun justify itself anymore for travel photography. Dun even want to talk abt image quality.

lol! i was there too, and i get what you mean.
not that it bothers me much, but a thought did cross my mind: what if there was a way to say "Hey look this way! This 45/1.8 (or 25/1.4 or 75/1.8) will flatter you more than their kit lenses!" hehe.

in the main room during the Alodia signing event, a number of the shooters were muttering about flash not being allowed. admittedly, it was rather dim, but not dim enough to be an issue at f1.8 ;)

Anyone can share on how you keep they VF4 + 25mm f1.4 on EP5 when put into the bag? Having a hard time to figure this out to save more space on my bag!

Your setup of EP-5 + VF4 + 25/1.4 is by itself a very compact setup. The Leica Vario X body alone is already larger and it's a fixed lens camera. :)

Think a better way to start is which bag r u using ? Size etc.

And for VF-4 , when storing , I will always detach it from the body and just stow it away in another bag pocket. This is a habit of mine as I've this weird fear of the VF4 body not strong enough to withstand being compressed haha.
I use either a Hadley pro or a Wotancraft scout (both small bags) and have always managed to pack in another 12-35/3.8 , umbrella , wallet and barang barang.
