peng eik,
the TN gels...i notice got 2 variations for each.one darker tone, one lighter.
when do we use the lighter or the darker?
i thought all tungsten light (orangy) lights are the same?

Not sure havn't try out yet, both the TN and FL have 2 type lighter and darker shade. Even if it is the similar type of light source, eg tungsten light, the color temp varies with each make or model, distance etc of tungsten.

sigh....sb900 like 800, cannot use as a slave without the wireless controller ah?

so sad.

if anyone knows a way, (other than connecting a PW), please let me know.
TIA

oh, i found the answer.

must enable SU-4, then switch to remote, then either use AUTO, or switch to Manual flash power.
yeh!:)

then wats the purpose of using color gel when the white balance remain white? :bsmilie:

It's probably for mixed lighting.. so your flash will always be corrected to be white?

if the room is lit by mainly tungsten lights, you use the correct gel to match the flash colour temp and your whole room is be corrected to white

same for florescent tubes

or you can be creative and trick the camera

thanks for explaining. have yet to visit this temple.

Gotten the SB 900, paired with my D3 and had loads of fun taking pics over the week end.
Was my kids birthday party... with many kids friends.

Fired till the flash over heated... shut down. There after, problem comes...

Occasionally, with the camera on with the flash, the D3 AF will not work and the shutter will not release. Got to switch off camera ad flash, take out both sets of batt, re insert then will work.

What could be the problem?
:dunno: hope it is not that i have damaged by D3 or SB 900.

Could this be solved with firmware upgrade?

just out of wondering how many shots were fired before the flash over heated and shut down. were you firing rapidly like three-shots burst or like a shot every ten seconds or so.

i think nikon may have built in a safeguard to prevent you from using in case of a meltdown or the over-heating may have tripped the 'fuse' box so to speak. if this is the case, it could be a software bug.

if you can still shoot and have good exposures (and no burning smell coming out from anywhere) i think your equipment should be fine.

fired close to about 100 shots at say... 10 s interval, single servo mode before the flash shut down. But noted the AA batt to be hot. After recovery, the exposure is back to normal.

What worries me is how come my D3 occasionally cannot auto focus after this incident? When it did AF lock and fire off with the flash, exposure is good and accurate... Had to take out all the batt to reset before D3 work properly.

Just curious... of course, worried too...
