last wkend was out shooting with the SB900 at enchanting indonesia

the flash is so smart...i just fire direct...
no diffuser or bounce...just direct...the exposure is really good

The iTTL is really accurate too...and at wide angle...the flash expose the subjects evenly
at 200mm the flash gently filled in on the subjects and stage. a slight shadow can be seen
simply power down the -1.3 to -2.0ev...the shadows are eliminated.

With this new flash...i dun really think need to many pattern or bouncing la...diffuser la...or whale or plastic bowl.
Just choose wide, normal or center weighted on ur flash...the rest is up to you.

wah! bro, is this really that good? knoob like me not need to think about those bouncing la....diffuser la...gary foong watever la... huh! with this super high tech flash light, good news to those beginer with more $$$$$$$

Kept ISO at 200. Does it matter?

Alot. cannot really explain it fully here. What chngpe01 have mention that imagine, you are in iso 200 and u are already 3 stop under. you flash work triple hard to compensate the exposure. Worse. If you are already on a bounce flash. Lagi Worse when you have a diffuser on.
Make sense ?

and when u are in iso1600 and you are 1/2 stop under. Your flash doesnt have to compensate so much to bring the pic to balance exposure.
D3 have the capabilty to go 3200 and allow flash to do a nice fill in and also allow faster recharging WHEN you are in high ISO..

If u haf a ceiling to bounce...then use it to get a nicer fill-in...since the ceiling is there might as well use it.

but when it comes to shooting outdoor, just shoot direct...dun be afraid to try...dun need to be pro to try right?...keep trying keep shooting...who knows u might shoot better than the so call pros

Yah. I know my statement sounds abit off the hook. Usually I only do that when shooting outdoors studio and I want to get "fight the sun/cut ambient light" and hence shoot at high flash sync speeds. But anyway what I meant was this:

this is seriously one bad picture.

i have to agree with lumiere, the sb900 when use as fill, it's really fantastico.

BUT

still, i wont fire directly naked at someone.

i'll still pop in the diffuser, or bounce it,

BUT no whaletail, no tupperware for me.

it's really a very cool flash.

now my sb800 is like a concubine being exiled.

Actually I wasn't too keen on the SB 900 afterall the SB 800 is already one of the best flash produced.

But after testing the SB 900 for a while, I was bought over, impressive I can said. Easier user interface, no need to fumble and think to much it just makes life easier.

It is not that SB 800 cannot do the job, it can but SB 900 makes in much easier for you.

Just that the Modelling light is buried inside the the menus. the SB800 worked great as a beacon during night shoots :bsmilie:

dun think so. Light has to be triggered manually.

Thank you all bros and sis for your comments.

I just realise my ISO is stuck at 200 even though I set it to ISO AUTO. No wonder my flash shut down... Over firing... thanks for all the explanation.

BTW, now the second question. How to set the ISO to auto?
