Is effective focal length 355mm (Takahashi 60mm) or more due to the camera?

Impressive shot!

Hi cerebrus, i remember calculating once for my film camera (forgot the formula already), the effective focal length is about 800 to 1000mm.

so now with the 1.6x crop it should be between 1280 to 1600mm

you'll need a 2x IMO..

for my shots, i used a 300mm + 2X TC, shot thru my bedroom window in urban area...:)

settings were roughly 1/10s, f11 ISO 100 IIRC

cheers

 I am now suffering from focal length envy.... :sticktong

My newbie attempt at the moon.

Shot at 200mm with 1.7TC...

How can I get it sharper?:dunno:

Here's mine.

Here's my humble contribution. Shot with a CanonIxus on full-auto through the eyepiece of a telescope. Was slightly overexposed so did some levels adjustment and unsharp masking in PS.

Hi,
Join in the "Moon" photo fun.. :)

Day 4 Moon took through my 120mm F8.3 Achromatic Refractor and Canon 300D. Stack 50 images of ISO 100 @ 1/50s exposure:

some very nice moon shots in this tread

I'll have to try different phases, but here is my attempt to share

My rather feeble, handheld attempt...oh, how can I resist the urge to moon a forum's worth of people? ;p Anyone knows what is this pinkish noise on the picture - camera/technique problem? I used 350D, a 2x extender and 70-200mm. Will reshoot.

It's not the telescope, it's the image processing software call RegiStax... It'll make your Moon images look very details and sharp... just don't over do it. :p Try it, it's free anyway. :)

Have a nice day.

I like the first shot, with the curved terminator.

Err.... is not a 120mm F8.3 Achromatic Refractor a telescope? Think the normal focal length must be 1000mm or more.

Yes... it's a telescope and 1000mm focal length, but with a non-hack Canon 300D (no mirror lock-up), it basically impossible to get a image so sharp and with so many details without the help of image processing software... the magic of digital imaging and image processing... :)

Have a nice day.

Hi Weixing,

I don't think there's a need to stack moon shots as a bit of USM will bring out a lot of details already. I find that that level of sharpness looks very unnatural to me.

Just me 2 cents. :)
