[SunChasersSG] Newbies Outing (Part 18) - Sunrise @ Merlion Park 18 Sept 2010 (Pics)

I really like these 2 shots. I think it's the tones and the "drama"

Wow, so many excellent photos, I like so many of them, one post can't finish listing them. For a start, the above are all I like!!!

Both pictures were nice work and great color..:)

Lovely shots Adrian and Albert !

Thank you for the kind words :)

These get my vote hehe. Excellent shots!

Yilin,

For #2, I guess your focus is on the sun which is you tried to place roughly following the rule of thirds. Great sky too! But the cropped MBS building doesn't really work for me, sorry.

The composition is quite good for #3, with the stairs providing a leading line to the merlion (although the building on the most right is slightly cropped). But I feel the contrast is lacking, not enough tone. Need more shadow and highlight :)

Actually, from the pics from newbies I've seen so far, all have improved a lot. I am very glad everyone is shooting better. Remember when the seniors say this is not good that is not good, do not get discouraged. Just that you are all getting better and better, so they will get more and more demanding from your shots. Which is a good thing to help everyone improve here. Keep up the good work everyone.

Wow u guys have such awesome shots. Envy the way u guys capture the sun. Many thanks to Bro ding for organising this outing and lending/teaching me about ND filters. And also to Bro korbidp3k for teaching me the black card method (but i still failed ). Picked up many valuable tips and learned new knowledge about landscape shooting from everyone

Here are my shots for the day, the rest was too bad to be put up here. Looking forward to the future Sunchasers outing! Gonna be practicing and improving on my skills in the meantime.

Hi Keith,

Not bad for starters. Your horizons and verticals are pretty straight and your exposure (esp for #1 and #2) are spot on. :)
However, I feel that the composition can be improved though. Some of the reflections are cut off and some pics felt too 'tight'. Try to give more space.

Your picture seems a bit soft too. It could be because of when you press the square filter directly to the lens, it gives vibration to your tripod, causing it to shake a bit.

Keep shooting! :)

Yes, very true! :)

I think having pics to compare for gives one a target to aim for. We're all improving and I think we have a lot to learn from each other. Compared to some people here who have been taking pics for years, ours would pale in comparison, but nevertheless, there're still things to learn from.

Once again, thanks for all who attended and also to the Seniors for guiding the rest.

Apologies as I didn't get to chat with everyone. Hope maybe next outing can float around more and have my voice back. Also, I wish it was more structured, like for example how to fully use a bubble leveler, and for those considering upgrading their tripods.

Also, apologies for putting up the group photo late, as I have been spending the past 3 days in hospital with my mom. Finally have a breather.

@Kevil, for ND filters you can get from Mass Order in CS, from Henessy for $138, or ask the other members around if they have an ND 110 for sale. Since you are using a kit lens, you would need a step up ring to attach a 77mm filter to a 58mm diameter lens. But you can get that from any shop in Peninsula.

As a whole, very encouraged to see some newbies, like Kevil, able to get good pictures from the outing. About time we have to promote some members to interim Primary 2 (using Wildcat's Terminology).

Cheers all!

Let me try to put names to the faces in the group photo:

Hope all is ok with your mum.

This looks like the biggest SunChasers outing ever?

Yeah, admitted last Saturday nite/Sunday morning. But she's discharged now.

I thought the one @ Stadium was the biggest so far?
