Sunbird outside my balcony

Hi, I am back...
Today being Saturday I have the whole morning to make use of taking photos of the sunbird's feeding session.

See how fast the chick has grown - it has features on it now and it looks like it's a female chick. Soon it will fly and soar to the sky......

These are 2 of the many shots taken.
Cheers,

Hi Raymond, great documentation you have here... it is very interesting and great to experience this..... Do take more pics...!

Congrate for a very well documented series:thumbsup:

Pearl, Reno and Strobby,
Thanks to all... would take more till the day the cutie bids me goodbye.

Cheers,

Hi Raymond, my - how fast the chick has grown... you probably have about a week before it fledges... keep up the great documentary - really enjoying your pics and the pics as the chick develops... hope to see more this coming week, and especially when it leaves the nest from a successful nesting with you as host! :)

Nice capture of the sunbird.

It doesn't get any better then taking photos of an event right in the comfort of your own home.:)

Hi xtemujin,
Thanks for the kind comment. Sure thing.. I can sit down and "lim koh pee" with one hand on my remote cable release to capture all the actions.... I have the best seat in town. Ha ha...

Hi,Raymond.
Beside having the best seat now, I have noticed that your photograhpic skill is inproving with every new posting. That is good.Hope you dont mind my request for you to shoot the Sunbird flying in with the food for the chick. The inflight shots.:bsmilie:
You can actually know their arrival with their constant chirping "chwee chwee"

Hi Alan

Thanks for the encouragement! Appreciate it very much.
I did try to capture the flying in (inflight shots) but only managed to get one or two but they were all not very sharp. With the 400mm, the angle of view is rather small and hence not able to do so most of the time as the birds just came and landed on the nest without hovering too much. However, I will definitely give it a try again if there is opportunity.

Regards,
Raymond

Finally got one decent fly-in shot of the male sunbird.
Alan, hope you like it.

Thanks for viewing.

WOW for this shot. But you havent got the male yet.;) This is the female.
BTW the chick is so grown-up now. It should be ready to fly off this few day.

Hi Alan

Thanks for the WOW... I realized that it was a female after I posted. Sorry. Here is the male one.
Ya, I guess the cutie will fly off these few days... I am hoping it will not "checkout" till Sunday to give me one more weekends to be their graceful host.

Cheers!

Nicely taken!:thumbsup: The chick really grow fast. Hopefully you can catch a photo of the chick flying off - that would be the cream for the cake!

BTW how to tell whether male or female?:dunno:

Hi
Thanks for the compliments.
The male is the one with purple coloured throat while the female with all yellow.

The challenge from csnapper gets tougher... to take the chick flying off. Will try if she is still around this weekends. The chick is also a female as you can see with her yellow throat.

Thanks for visiting.

Use of flash certainly help! But mind you, among these two there are many blurred ones which I 'pai seh" to show.

Just within a month, your standard had gone to another level. Maybe you can give it a try. Have you keep a record on how many days since the egg hatched.?
Its still early to tell the different between male or female. The male will slowly put on the violet coloured throat when it mature.

Hi Alan

Thanks for your encouragement. Appreciate it.

Just to inform you that this morning at about 10am, the chick flew off with its parents. I was in office and my wife was the only one at home. She was "trained" to take some shot by just squeezing the cable release and when she noticed the chick got more and more out of its nest, she was trying to capture and then all in a sudden, she was gone....

She called me and I was kind of sad for a while but on second thought, I was so blessed to be part of her life cycle. I wished the Xiao Huan and Xiao Hei and the little chick well. Thanks to everyone too for sharing this experience with me.

Yes, I did keep a diary documenting the whole episode.

17 Jan 09 - parents started to build their nest
28 Jan 09 - Bird nest almost completed. Birds stopped coming back for a few days after.
3 Feb 09 - Mother bird was seen sitting inside her nest from this day onward
21 Feb 09 - Saw the chick for the first time
4 Mar 09 - Chick took off and leave its nest.
