Sunbird outside my balcony

Just to update csnappers, the pair of sunbird has made their return since three days ago. They had been coming to "repair" and rebuild the nest and I think in no time, female bird will start to lay her egg again.
Since I was free during weekends, I took some photos of the bird flying in. Hope you like them. Thanks for viewing.

The second season feeding session has started. Chicks are 7 days' old and able to extend its neck out of nest to catch the food.
#1 Female sunbird feeding her youngs

#2 Male sunbird feeding. Notice that there are two insects in its beak - one for each chick. No need to fight.

To be honest, I have to chase away two intruders recently. Once a yellow colour bird with black stripes on its eyes (can't remember its name) came and pecked at the nest, and then there was a magpie robin who came real close to it and want to attack it. Fortunately I was around and they were shooed away. I hope they won't come when no one is at home.

How many more days before the chicks fledge?

Pearl, I think judging from the rate they are growing, I will give them at most one more week before they fledge. You can see the photos, their eyes are just about to open.

Just curious, how did the mother dispose off the pooh? Do they swallow it? :think:

Sorry to disappoint, the chicks just took off so suddenly. There is no pre-warning that they are going to fly. In fact, the first chick fledged earlier without I noticing. But I did see the second chick flew off when I was going near the nest. May be better luck in season 3???

Quite interesting considering birds just pooh anywhere they like. Wonder if this 'hygienic' behaviour only applies to sunbird? :think:

Hii Raymond, glad that your 2nd batch of 2 chicks fledged successfully - due in part to your watchfulness and protectiveness no doubt !

And a great moment captured of the mummy removing the baby pooh.. with the baby backside shown as well ! haha..
I had also observed the parents going into the nest between feedings and removing the pooh - whitish stuff, which I had assumed are nesting material filled/stained with pooh but unfortunately did not manage to get any shots of this pooh removal act. So you have really great shot ! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

And hope you do get to host batch 3 (and 4?) since my friend is currently hosting her batch 3!
