love your series bro, I have a question for you, when you merge the different images, how do you tackle moving objects like eg the boats in order to eliminate the ghosting effect, is there a function in Photomatix that could eliminate that?

Thanks guys, I guess that shot was my major. :) When I was there, I noticed the tiles, and I know I do not own a T&S lens, so to straighten without any photoshopping, I included the tiles. I didn't realize it did led the viewers' eyes to the buildings. haha

Well anyway, I may slowly make a move towards shooting architecture again. Recently my legs had gone bad... Not too sure but I had alot of sores on my legs after visiting so many beaches, ie. Changi, Punggol, Sembawang, etc. I guess I discovered an allergy; so damn itchy!! I probably have to buy myself a pair of high boots to protect my skin of my legs whenever I enter the water instead of sandals.

Oh, that would be such a pity. I really like your shots of our coast line :)

Thanks for your comments! To answer your question, you'll need the correct timing and shoot from your observation of the moving subject in your scene. For example, the Lower Seletar Reservoir where the boat keeps on spinning and spinning in non-stop motion regardless whether the water is calm or rough, there will be a time whereby it will come to at least an 80% standstill before it rotates itself back to the opposite direction, counterclockwise or anti-clockwise. That 80% standstill is your chance to shoot especially with slow shutters. Careful observation is key to your shoot. In the finalized shot, the boat will definitely not be 100% standstill sharp because, as mentioned, its slow shutter speed, but at least with the high aperture settings above f13 or f16 it should compensate for the movement. :)

As for people in the streets, and cloud movement in the skies, it's recommended to stack at least one 0.9 or 1.2 ND filter above, (behind for me in this case) your GND to bur out any of those. (Hoya's NDX400 9 stop or B+W's ND110 will be the best options for streets) And on worst case scenarios depending on the situation, you can use a 0 EV or a shot with fast shutters then gradient/patch over the moving parts for the clarity in photoshop. :)

PS, I try not to use Photomatix to edit your HDRs. For beginners it will be OK, but subsequently if you desire a far more realistic look, manual blending in photoshop is recommended. Gradient tool is your best friend. :)

Hope this helps.

Haha, thanks guys, SK and Dylan. :D

No worries, until the sores on my legs heal I should be able to shoot seascapes again. :) Anyway I'm getting myself a pair of high legged, PCK styled boots this weekend.

Suntec

2 Image DRI using Hoya NDX900 + Tiffen ND 1.2 stacked for smoothed sky effects. Suntec City, Singapore.

The tiles on the façade isn't noise though. It's the way the tile's texture looks like...

Back to Architecture. Wishing for a T&S Lens!!!

Punggol Gloom (Wave Catching)

5 Image HDR/DRI using ND 0.6 Lee hard grad + Tiffen ND 1.2 for smoothed water effects. Punggol beach, Singapore.

Sunset was very gloomy and didn't get to see that great ball of fire go down the horizon. The tide was really high and there was wave after wave of strong hits.

I try not to enter or go past the shores into the sea as my legs are recovering from some allergy. So damn itchy. Probably the water. Gonna get boots next time.

Damn... Got new pics of Pasir Ris and Lower Peirce Reservoir to upload when my computer's PSU blew out. Gotta get a replacement ASAP. :( No PC in the meantime. I'm in camp anyway, so yeah.

Here's something from Japan a long time ago:

Fuji In a Cup

Mt. Fuji, Japan. Cup's a little dirty though... I unintentionally placed a cup filled with water on the Window Sill of my hotel room, and it created this illusion.

Reach for the Golden Center

A combination of DRI and HDR blended together. Osaka, Japan. Can't recall what were the settings or how many exposures were taken to manually HDR this.

Hi Stefan,

Suggest to change the title of your thread to be more relevant, since Japan is not in Singapore.

I appreciate your feedback but I'm not going to do that for just two pictures. If the mods have an issue with that, let them do the deleting then. If no one complains and nothing has been done by others, then I'll just leave it as it is.

Haha, if exceuted it's relatively simple. :) I'll try to put it in just two steps:

1. Watch the boat, wait for it to "stop" spinning.
2. Has it stopped? SHOOT, NOW!!! :)

Well, and that's it! haha.

For ION Orchard I took it at the 12th floor carpark of Shaw Centre. :) Technically, it's a non-public area and the guards will try to stop you. I told them I was just shooting pictures of ION and they just say, Oh! Ok! :)

Thanks Hightone!! nah, it wasn't me being creative, the cup; it was there by accident. haha. :)

Well guys, my PC is finally fixed. Replaced my 1200W Thermaltake PSU and now I am ready to upload photos I took last week. :)

Your works are nothing short of excellent! Keep it up, bro.

Some parts of Singapore's coastline used to be like that. It's called a mangrove swamp. :)

Starting to loose faith in sharing in CS as nobody seems to care to comment or give any C&C about my work.

your photographic journey cannot rely on these, not for long.

you risk injury, suffer allergy, sacrifice your sleep, risk offending stray people in your frame, lug around heavy gear every week.

what are you enduring all these for? If you feel like lying low for awhile go ahead, don't be constrained by your title "weekly singapore city-landscapes."

one technical note: your shots lack micro-contrast and sharpness, should be due to your use of heavy filters.
