hi all..... wow its tough being a threadstarter haha..... :)

Thanks for the many many PMs sent to me asking essentially the same thing..... "Should I get the EX-1 ? " and apologies that my reply has been mostly "sorry bro/sis, do your own research and decide"

I just want to make ONE THING clear....... this is a thread reviewing the EX1 ....... at NO time did I worship this camera nor outrightly acted like a fanboy ha ha :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

I do believe I have put down my Likes and Dislikes .... Pros and Cons .... about this camera ....

You guys will need to make your own decisions based on your own research..... I dont work for Samsung and my ego is not tied to the EX1 for me to defend my purchase decision...... just want to say that we live in an imperfect but evolving world.

Good luck !! and continue with the feedbacks (both pros and cons)

It's tough for any P&S camera to capture kids even with a fast lens. It's a juggling act between setting a shutter speed fast enough to stop movement and an iso low enough to present good quality. Here are some shots of my granddaughter who is never still unless asleep. I think they represent real world use of this camera. I probably could have bumped up the iso to get a faster shutter speed, but like I said, it's a juggling act. I think I used intelligent auto on some of these. Anyway, it shows that an external flash is very necessary in situations like this where you need to have a fast shutter speed. I've got one on order.

Thanks kilgtfish,

Nice pictures taken and lovely granddaughter you have. :)

Indeed the pictures do rival those from DSLRs, if you have not told me it's taken from EX1, I would have thought it's taken from one.

Were you using external flash for these shots? They certainly looks nice and well exposed while remaining natural, not like those from typical wash-out pns look.

Thanks for sharing, it's indeed give some more insight of indoor people shots.

Anyone can post shots taken on their kids/pets? ie. objects that moves? Importantly want to know how fast can this gem focus and also the skin-tone colours.

the hong kong site that kentwong81 posted have very good review on the AF comparison between LX3 & EX1.

in all the nikon vs ex1 photos, it seems that ex1 are brighter.
eg, both cameras are set to aperture priority mode

iso400
ex1
f7.2, 1/180sec

d300
f7.1, 1/250sec

iso800
ex1
f7.2, 1/340sec

d300
f7.1, 1/640sec

it is the same as those photos of lx3 vs ex1 in the hong kong site.

since the cameras were set to same mode during comparison, than what could be the possible reason?:think:

if only there is a fellow cser with ex1 is willing to do a review together with me & peterpan1975:cry::cry:

same problem i have with wide & tele converters,

Using Wide Angle / Tele Converter on your camera
http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=477934

nobody seems to want to share the reviews of their converters, but most will ask for opinion. maybe its singapore's culture,
take only, no give.
or could it be they r afraid it will hurt the resale value?

Thank you for your kind remarks.
I did not use flash for those photos. They were just available light, and not very much light I must say. Our living room in our house does not have many windows so it is a challenge for photography there.
I have ordered a Samsung flash(the sef-20a), but have not received it yet. I got a tracking number that indicates that I will receive it on Thursday (July 1).
Yesterday (Monday) I received the slave trigger (PT-04TM) and experimented with the ex1 and my Sunpak flash, but I have not taken a lot of photos with it yet. Don't have a lot of pictures to share using that flash. My wife gets irritated when I keep trying to take her photograph, so I have to wait until my son brings my granddaughter to visit. She is always a good photo model, except when diaper needs changing or she's hungry.

be patient bro ..... I doubt if the relevant converters , add-on toys, leather cases etc etc for the EX1 are even on the market yet

TS, I think Denniskee was mentioning about "Sharing" of information here rather then add-on for EX1. Seem like s'porean only like to take rather then sharing. :)

These are the last few images from last week's trip to Taipei

me in my pp'ed sunglasses after a much needed haircut haha !! That articulating LCD on cameras like the Canon G11 , Sony NEX-5 , Panasonic GF1 , Samsung EX1 etc etc are just great for candid people shooting

had a haircut at a local salon and this lady was beside me getting her hair done

These guys were like less than 1m away from me... just laid the cam on the table , flipped open the LCD, locked AEL, composed and shot

Can we post some "good quality" photos taken by EX1 here? If just post those candid photos or anyhow taken photos, people may think that EX1 is not a good camera and not convincible. In fact, if we can master EX1 and take the photos seriously, it's possible to get DSLR-like quality photos by EX1.

Hi Kentwong81, since you got the Ex1, why not you start the ball rolling first :)

but why? do we buy camera only to take "good quality" photos & not "candid shots"? what is ur defination of "anyhow shot"?

ur mean we dont know how to differentiate a properly taken photo ie tech (eg focus, exposure, motion blur, camera shake etc) is "correct"?

so, how do u rate the standard still shots, landscape shots, street shots or even the CA torture shot using alu foil etc of those popular camera review site like dpreview?

do u mean in a candid camera review, only photos that show the positive point of the camera is allow?

if i myself were to use EX1 to shot street candid, is that consider ok to be use for review? or do u think the photo of Plaza Sing I posted is not correct other than WB (that is my fault for not checking, but like I said in previous post, it is more "correct" WB than the LX3 which is on AWB and that the that WB setting for that shot doesnt affect the rest of the camera's performance). if u think otherwise, pls enlighten me what is wrong there. thanks in advance.:)

so far, all those shot posted here by fellow CSers, r they ok by ur std?

anyway..... yes.... please all those of you who have this cam, pls make an effort to post some pics .

p/s Again, this review is...... a review..... through feedback and photos in various conditions/environments..... its not an advertisement for Samsung ..... not a shout to get more people to buy the camera...... the camera will live ..... and die...... on its pros and cons and what prospective users deem to be important features that are available or not available :)

ha ha ha so modest ah, the stealth shot of the lady in the saloon nicely taken lay.

thats what i like about swival screen, very easy to use for overhead shot (in crowded area) and low angle shot (use ur imaginations;)). thats why i love my canon g2 :heart:more than my 40d. 40d still have to buy a small angle finder and see though it for low angle shots, overhead shot is a pain to use it.

I use my DSLR even for candid and anyhow shots of my kids anywhere, anytime.

EX1 is a pns standard and is meant to be taken anywhere for anyhow and candid shots.

It's the anyhow and candid shots that we consumers are more concerned since no matter how, the IQ can never beat a DSLR.

So ... Let those Bros and Sis who got this Ex1 post some "good quality" pictures hey lay ... hahahah

If EX1 is just limited to PnS as mentioned above, it's overpriced and not worth to buy. You might as well buy a Casio camera which costs less than SGD199. It can do the same job too.

The quality of photos I meant just now is just like those in the link below. You can see the real difference.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/samsungzone/tags/ex1/

What I want to say is that even if it is PnS, we still can capture good quality photos by putting in our passion and good aesthetic. Of course it cannot be compared to DSLR but the technology nowadays has pull them closer.
