Samsung EX-1 Review

If EX1 is just limited to PnS as mentioned above, it's overpriced and not worth to buy. You might as well buy a Casio camera which costs less than SGD199. It can do the same job too.

The quality of photos I meant just now is just like those in the link below. You can see the real difference.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/samsungzone/tags/ex1/

What I want to say is that even if it is PnS, we still can capture good quality photos by putting in our passion and good aesthetic. Of course it cannot be compared to DSLR but the technology nowadays has pull them closer.

it kind of funny, i dont recall Samsung says their EX1 is not for taking anyhow shoot & candid photos. also, i dont recall Samsung making the statement u made.

btw, going by the std shown in ur link, if potential buyer doesnt have the skill to shoot those photos, can they buy EX1? or should they just get el cheapo $200 p&s?

I use my DSLR even for candid and anyhow shots of my kids anywhere, anytime.

EX1 is a pns standard and is meant to be taken anywhere for anyhow and candid shots.

It's the anyhow and candid shots that we consumers are more concerned since no matter how, the IQ can never beat a DSLR.

IQ aside, talk about getting good compositions. in certain situations, sometimes a pns might be better than a dslr. like shooting very close up wide angle street candid shots would be hard if youre carrying a gripped 5dmk2 with a 24-105/24-70 lens as compared to handholding a LX3 or EX1 :)

(esp with the ex1's swivel LCD really helps make shooting a lot less conspicuous - gets you shots you might otherwise have not been able to take if you were carrying huge cameras)

for purposes such as this, i am keeping my EX1. nobody should buy a pns in first place expecting to replace his/her DSLR, it is only meant to complement it.

er.. going by kent's statement, my friend, why the heck u buy dslr??!! get a el cheapo $200 p&n lar. use proper tools for the job ok.:bsmilie::bsmilie:

Think the sales of EX1 will be effect either way. ITs only for SERIOUS and HIGH standard photographer lao. ITs not for street or candid any more. For once, there is a camera that I'm not allow to purchase event I got the Money to buy. By the way, how does SamSung judge a person's worth for this camera?

Hey guys, I don't mean to be harsh. If you see the photos in the link I gave just now and compare them against the photos here, you will get what I mean. It's not a criticism but rather a kind of expectation to show what EX1 can actually do.
The photos I have seen here haven't fully shown the potential and ability of EX1. I believe it's because EX1 is still a new product and we are still learning to master it. If we say EX1 is just a PnS camera like a SGD199 Casio camera, it's sort of giving up to learn and dig further.
EX1 can do much better than the normal PnS cameras provided that we choose the right settings(aperture, ISO, shutter speed, exposure), angle and composition, which you can see from the photos in the link I gave just now.

OK guys..... start another thread on the merits of PnS vs DSLRs ........... this argument regards this class of cameras (S90, G11, LX3 etc etc etc )and not just this EX1

..... :)

I am sure EX1 like LX3, S90 or whatever can produce IQ better than most pns.

Their lenses, sensors and features are more advanced and will definitely satisfy most advanced users.

However, still it's being marketed as PNS....until...the next LX4 comes along with m4/3 sensor and 3x Leica zoom lens...this should be interesting.

Yah, I think it's an overkill to use my DSLR as candid camera...:bsmilie:

Yup agree, esp with the light weight and small size to take discretely without getting too much attention in public places.

That's why I am looking around to see if there is any better pns to replace my wx1, with ex1 as one of the option.

Now, i also heard samsung wb2000 is also a great camera with backlit cmos sensor and full 1080p videos and can take videos and still pictures at the same time without causing interruption to the videoing...

LX4 (rumored) is another big consideration too....

If you look closely and follow how this progress, it's you who started the comment of "good" photo. Have you ever stop back and think why TS want to start this thread? its all about EX1 performance, the con and pro. We are just adding extra info such as picture comparsion with other brand. Giving the best in term of function and performance. In which not much of people sharing here. Most ppl here only show what Ex1 can do and how the picture turn out to be. Its cool but missing some certain information. So ... chill out dude......

 100% agreed with ed9119, lets bring the argument of DLSR vs Pns some where else. I would not want to go into that field. Its just not so pro .. :sweatsm:

Hi Dennis, if the potential buyer doesn't have the passion and good aesthetic to shoot photos, whatever camera(even a DSLR) will be the same for him. Skills can be learned and improved. Only depends whether you have the passion to do so. No one is a born photographer.

If you are not serious into photography and don't require certain aesthetic standard, you don't have to spend that kind of money to buy EX1. My friend got a Canon powershot camera(only SGD199) and the quality of the photos he took are almost the same as the photos posted here. Because if you don't manually set the right settings in EX1 according to the situation you are going to shoot, you most probably would get a lower quality photo. I still have a 4-year-old Sony PnS camera and its auto-mode can do the candid shooting for me. However, once I manage to get the right settings for my EX1, that Sony camera loses all the way down.

EX1 is a starter for those beginners who are interested to learn photography. After you reach certain level, you can proceed to buy a DSLR. Hence, it won't make photography an expensive hobby at the beginning especially if you don't wish to continue later on due to lose interest.

To bring out the pros and cons of EX1, you have to show the appropriate photos for comparison right? If the photos are taken without the correct settings of EX1, how can we do the comparison? I just meant that the photos posted here are not good for checking the pros and cons of EX1 because I suspect that they were taken using the inappropriate settings.

Look like everyone here is wasting time on this EX1. Go buy canon powershot camera, cos almost all photo posted here resemble to powershot ...

Anyone want to take over my cam?? :bsmilie:

If you thought all the pictures there are PP, then I have nothing to say lor. Maybe the DSLR photos in the internet are PP too.
So going forward whenever you want to buy a camera, you want to do hands-on side by side comparison yourself and never trust the photos posted on any website?

Good question... yes, i always trust my eyes. Review on the net only give me 60% confirmation on the item. The rest of the 40% make up of hands on, playing with it and also photo taking session. :)

Does anyone know where to get this camera at the lowest price? I saw it going for SGD565 on ebay with 8gb card and extra battery.
