[ Rubbish Thread ] Why so many people use canon rather than olympus?

Yes. A friend of mine was working at Epicentre on Orchard Road for a while selling Apple computer equipment. The older salespeople complained about him. He was doing something terrible. He explained why a certain computer was better for the use and demonstrated how it could be used. He was knowledgeable because he used the computers daily, but the others had the chance to use those in the store and spent their time talking to each other instead.

I wish that everyone was enthusiastic (and knowledgeable) about what they sold.

yeah these sale people are rare now adays... i had spoken to a canon engineer (so he said) during one of its road shows he said he's not the sale guy but I think he'll be one hell of a sale guys if he wants to. He knows the product inside out he neverr said his product better than nikon or oly he just gives you the insight he even tell you the pros and cons of a particular model e.g. 1000d vs 500d. I almost buy from him it's just Canon was way too expenssive for my budget then... thats when i saw EPL1 at 850 only lols:bsmilie:

Interesting that this thread is still on.

If a Canon makes your photo better, so be it.

I critique the picture, not the person behind the camera or the camera.

wa.. really entertaining thread to read. And nice responses from the mods :bsmilie:

Especially since this thread has become a joke, and should have been flushed down the toilet long time ago, so...:flush:

Actually, if you do not look at the person, one can never understand why art is created. Art is created by people, not equipment. So the spirit and emotions behind the person is more important than the spirit and emotion in the end product, in this case, a picture. Some pictures, without understanding its background, might only evoke a certain emotion, but the full impact comes when one can understand where and when and why and how and under what conditions was the image taken. So the person, what he was feeling at that time, can shed light on that moment when the shutter was released and the image was made.

Thought I share this since we are always on the same page when it comes to photography.

I truly agreee with you bro the camera is just an artist medium to express his/her art:lovegrin:

The tendency of emotional bonding that makes Canon is a leading position compare to other brands. ;)

For some reasons, the Porsche Owners Club comes to mind. :bsmilie:

We all know that Porches aren't the cheapest and definitely not one of the best cars in the world having driven them lately. But yet so many buys them and hangs out together alot. Olympus is more like the Lotus Exige S Club. Numbers are not big, cars are at entry level (supercars) prices, but hell, they are so much fun and a much better car to drive.

What makes me laugh is, Nikon is like the Land Rover Club, get the job done, ain't that affordable for their high end but their entry level are still a lot of fun.

Pentax is like the Evolution/WRX kind of club. Not expensive, but hell of a fun!

Leica is like the Pagani Zonda or Koenigsegg CCX... good drive, good build, but you have to make more money than an average drug dealer to buy one.

Mamiya is like Ferraris... there is always a super model near one. Or any other reputable medium format cameras.

Horseman and other large format cameras are like vintage cars... :bsmilie:

So you are saying Olympus owners are knowledgeable cheap skates?:bsmilie:

wat you mean by this? your words in bold?

what i'm saying is that you have your own preferences. 8000 people tell me nikon good, i can see that it is good. so what? i still like my k20d. it meets what *i* need.

i'm not saying that olympus is necessarily better than canon. i'm saying that none of them are necessarily better than each other.

next time your friends tell you canon > olympus, show them pictures taken by an olympus that they cannot take with their 1000d, 550d, 50d, 7d, whatever:

I have to totally agree with you on this. It is a rubbish and totally useless thread. It is for the Olympus users like myself who are stressed out and bored... Singapore is a small island, and without nonsense threads like these going on once in a while, the suicide rates will go up, less people will buy Olympus, prices will go up because of bad sales, more people shun the brand, and Olympus will have to close down... so think about it, we are actually saving Olympus!

Just kidding. Just letting this stupid thread go on for a while for folks to have a laugh, relax... it will die down eventually... Please ignore this thread if it irks you. My apologies, but I really think a silly thread like this should come up once in a while so that everyone can bond through light hearted discussions...

Because we aren't Germans...

Just kidding!!!!

wat you mean by this? your words in bold?

That dude lives in England, drives an Audi S4 (or BMW M3) and that makes him a cock! :bsmilie:

Just kidding, again.

Once again, this IS a RUBBISH THREAD. So don't take anything seriously in this thread or you might end up having to see a shrink.

That is the art appreciation level already.

One needs to have a basic understanding of that person before we can do what you mentioned. However, on the internet age here, an excellent photo would not beat a crappy PnS one from a close friend.

All cameras are the same? Its the man behind the cam, not the equipment blah blah blah ... ...

Agree?

Answer: Yes

So why did I choose Canon over Olympus?

Answer: Simply because there is a larger information database (Publications, Forums etc), and more optional accessories to choose from. I learn faster bacause there are simply more Canon related info. I have more fun also because there are more choices in accessories.

I don't get how you learn more about photography from choosing a brand that has more information about

I think he is just joking...

Can you imagine someone telling you they learned carpentry because they bought a set of Stanley-brand tools? That would be so ridiculous. Or becoming a 3D animation artist because they bought a Wacom tablet.

But there is some truth about finding accessories and literature about Canon cameras... hell, they are everywhere... even in convenience stores.

guess you from a diff camp.

Give you 1 SIMPLE example:

There are more discussions on Canon ETTL flash system than other brands. Together with the technology, there are more discussion on its applications and flash techniques. Not that Canon flash system is certainly better, but there are no denial there are more discussions which expose you to more info and knowledge about flash photography.

Simple enough? Or need further explanation?

It just mean you need more teachings to learn something, more crowd assurance to be confident. And you are definitely not a discoverer. Need further explanation?

if you have a huge share of the market others will try to capitalize buy creating accessories and publication all about your products.

It's like Iphone or Apple products you can find accessories almost everywhere (good thing my favorite satay and chiken rice store not selling them...... yet)

In Malaysia, Proton Cars have the most accessories, they have accessories to make you Proton looks like BMW, or look like Honda, Mercedes. They have Turbos add on and what not. They are sure good cars, heck , one of their ads show the car flying and drop few floors and still stay intact.

I guess all Canon users drive Proton.

Me? I drive an Alfa Romeo, romantic name and that is about it. You want to get accessories, heck I have difficulty getting spare parts even. Nobody bothers me when I drive this car around, there were time I left my door unlock and nobody want to steal my car.

Oh Ya, my other car is a Lamboghini. worst.
