hey anyone knows the chances of a misdiagnosis for TB? i received my old X-ray taken in Singapore, first look tells me that the same shadow had been around since last October, when i did my medical check and everything is normal. going to check with the doctor tomorrow  but somehow i feel chances are the doc is going to stick to the same verdict.

see a different doctor

just back from the checkup, the doc is shocked by my previous x-ray and report stating the shadow area as an old scar, he decides to let me continue medication for 1 more month and subsequently check again to be sure. i am almost certain that he made a misdiagnosis :(

Did they do the antibody (skin prick) test? The limit is <8mm I think. If >=8mm, then you are positive for antibodies.

Both the X-Ray & skin prick is needed to diagnose accurately.

yah, the red stained area is about 10mm, the hardened area (actual) is only 4mm, the doctor reads it as 'moderate possibility' which is easily due to the BCG vaccination we all received. my BCG vaccination lesion is still very obvious, for that matter i am supposedly vaccinated against TB successfully, thus ths skin test will show positive sign for existence of antibodies.

In my case, what I was told by the US docs was that the BCG vaccine was only valid for 10yrs, and this was in 1989. Also more developed countries use a stricter measure (8mm vs 5mm in S'pore) for positive antibody test.

hmmm, not sure about that, but the doc here confirms that chances of getting TB after vaccination is extremely low, so much so that in japan they have even scraped the BCG booster. and he confirmed that the skin test result could very possibly be due to vaccination (in fact he was surprised that all Singaporeans are vaccinated despite me telling him that 3 times)

anyway, the only tell-tale sign is the x-ray ... which my doc in Singapore ruled out the possibility of tb and subsequent blood and sputum tests showed no abnormality.. the doc in Japan might have been too careful :(

now i'm just worried about the side effects of the medicine
