Dear all

I'd like to check, is a wifi network required for the canon 6D to be connected to a laptop in order to use EOS utility software?

It's easy to connect my smartphone with my 6D and use the canon EOS remote app. However, when I connect my laptop wirelessly with my 6D (with 6D as an access point), I cannot use the EOS utility software on my laptop to control my camera unless I connect both devices over my existing home network.

Any users facing the same problem? Advice is much appreciated. I was thinking how great it would be if I could connect my windows 8 tablet with my 6D if I am outdoors and I can still control it remotely. Thanks!

Is there a way to transfer video from 6d to phone with eos remote app? Or only photos can be transferred? Thanks.

I see most people here get the 24-105 instead of the 24-70? Why is that so? Reviews seems to favour the 24-70 much more. Is pricing the only reason or you guys really need the extra zoom?

price is one of them,
the only plus points abt the 24-70 f/4 are
1) slightly sharper IQ than 24-105. But if you don't pixel peep, does this many any difference to you?
2) do you need the macro mode? the macro is not true macro anyway. just 'slightly' closer MFD. the magnification isnt 1:1 anyway

additional $$ for lesser focal length, all in exchange for just the 2 of the advantages listed above. you weight your cost-benefit, and your wallet yourself =)

nope the eos remote app still in its infancy. no video mode yet.

IMO, both are good lenses but I prefer the extra range and the IS of the 24-105.

The difference in IQ would favour the 24-70 but it is not significant enough for me to justify the loss of the two other advantages.

i prefer the old and good 24-105. more range and cheaper. the improvement on the new 24-70 f4 IS is not so much after i read reviews.

There's IS on the newer lens. It's claimed to be 4 stop hybrid version that's found in the 100mm macro L.

That said, there is always more compromise in IQ when there's more zoom factor. 24 to 105 is 4.3x while 24 to 70 is 2.9x

Yes its true that the 24-70 f/4 version has IS, but the poster with the original question was not specific to the f/4 version. I think he was referring to the f/2.8 version.

I think he is referring to the 24-70 f2.8 II as well, comparing to 24-105.

Have tried the 24-70II, it is really very sharp and in it's sharpest focal length of 24mm, it is sharper than the prime lens. It remains very sharp for all the other focal length which is close to some of the prime lens. For the IQ alone, this will be the ultimate lens, and it is quite obvious in difference and no need to pixel peep.

However, the price is almost 3 times of the 24-105 (comparing with kit lens price), and the difference in the price could means buying a 24-105 as well as getting another prime lens. Thus, the main reason for buying just the 24-105 will mainly be for the price difference.

So if you buy the 24-70II, you get very sharp IQ for 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70mm all at f2.8. This will likely be your main lens on the body

If you buy the 24-105, you get sharp but not as sharp IQ for 24-105mm all at f4, and save the balance money to get say one of the best prime, say a 35mm F1.4L if you like a specific favourite focal length of 35mm. This 35mm will likely be your main lens on the body, and the 24-105 for occasional use.

Depends. It can be that the 24-105 serves as a general purpose walkabout lens and the 35 becomes occasional/low light lens.

IMHO that is how I would use it rather than the other way around but that is probably because I prefer the versatility of a zoom even though a prime gives me significantly better IQ most times.

Was comparing Techno gadgets and Artworkfoto prices for body only. If Art's website is accurate they are selling the body at $2285 including GST with their own warranty. That's almost $80 savings from Techno.

Well... Artworkfoto you get a physical store whereby you can head down whenever you encounter problems with your dslr. On top of that, no waiting time for delivery etc. the only draw back is that you have to head down personally, but cityhall mrt just made it convenient.

Artworkfoto warranty for Body is only 30 days. I am not sure about Techno

Thanks everyone who chipped in to my question on 24-105 vs 24-70. I am more of looking for a good IQ walkabout lens with zoom. I already have a Sigma 85mm for potrait.

24-70 (mark I or II)- f2.8 vs f4 --> In terms of IQ (sharpness) they should not differ a lot right? Based on what i've read so far.

Actually, the difference is quite obvious with the new 24-70f2.8II as compared to the old 24-70 or 24-105. The new 24-70mm f2.8 Mark II is a lot sharper in all focal length, almost perfect lens with no weaknesses as compared to the other 2:

The difference in sharpness and details can be viewed easily from LCD monitor, with the new lens really as good as most of the prime lenses. AF is faster too and if you are just getting 1 lens and have budget to do so, this will be the lens to get.

If you have extra budget to spend and wants the best, this is it. Whether is it worth the extra for this new lens, depends on user. Those friends of mine who got this are all happy owners, and most have sold their old 24-70 and 24-105, and some have even sold their prime lenses as this lens can cover the sharpness required.

I missed that haha..Techno's is 1 year. The plus side is they reimburse you the service cost from CSC instead of waiting for the shop to ship back to don't know where to service and return to you which can take ages.

Waiting for my copy....:D after using 500D for 4 years until the focusing screen inside has become detached and I am using scotch tape to stick it back.

I know I might get flamed but anyone uses 3rd party grip specifically for 6D? I know there are threads on third party grips but I am more interested in the ones for 6D. Mind sharing what brand and feedback?

I might be wrong, but i think they will only reimburse the service cost for cost of manufacture defects. Perhaps someone with experience with technogadgets could share what they have paid servicing in terms of warranty?
