OFFICIAL: CANON EOS 6D - User Thread - Part 3

I missed that haha..Techno's is 1 year. The plus side is they reimburse you the service cost from CSC instead of waiting for the shop to ship back to don't know where to service and return to you which can take ages.

Waiting for my copy....:D after using 500D for 4 years until the focusing screen inside has become detached and I am using scotch tape to stick it back.

I know I might get flamed but anyone uses 3rd party grip specifically for 6D? I know there are threads on third party grips but I am more interested in the ones for 6D. Mind sharing what brand and feedback?

haha you bought from techno? can join the waiting queue like me lol........ ordered mine since the 15th and only getting mine this wed

I see most people here get the 24-105 instead of the 24-70? Why is that so? Reviews seems to favour the 24-70 much more. Is pricing the only reason or you guys really need the extra zoom?

For me, since I already have the 17-40, the 24-105 makes a suitable travel lens.

Dear all

I'd like to check, is a wifi network required for the canon 6D to be connected to a laptop in order to use EOS utility software?

It's easy to connect my smartphone with my 6D and use the canon EOS remote app. However, when I connect my laptop wirelessly with my 6D (with 6D as an access point), I cannot use the EOS utility software on my laptop to control my camera unless I connect both devices over my existing home network.

Any users facing the same problem? Advice is much appreciated. I was thinking how great it would be if I could connect my windows 8 tablet with my 6D if I am outdoors and I can still control it remotely. Thanks!

You need to manually set the ip addresses for both the camera and tablet.

Hi. Any users experienced "stuck" AF point before? I had set the AF pt to the one on the extreme right and after a few shots, it got stuck there and i couldnt manually adjust it at all. Lens was on AF mode. Switched off and on the cam, didnt work. Switched lens mode to MF then AF then switched off and on and it finally worked. Shot for the rest of the day and no issues since.

Should I be concerned? TIA for any feedback. Cheers.

I experienced it before. Can't remember whether it previously happened on my EOS7D as well, but clearly know that it happened on my EOS6D. What I do is to just adjust shutter/aperture just to make the camera respond again or else shut down & turn on the camera again.

Well... So far it's been okay, just that if it so happens to cost u to miss the "perfect moment", then it's probably a cause for concern. If not I don't think it's worth e trip down to canon, let them keep ur camera for a week and they returning to u saying they can't spot the problem... -.-

would like to ask some help (6D) having problem setting up GPS:angry:. it keeps on blinking but not able to connect.

are you outdoors or indoors

Thx for the input. Guess will just leave it since no issue since then. Cheers.

I like these two lenses too.

As a hobbyist who makes no money from photography, I find it hard to justify the exorbitant amount of money required to get the 16-35 and 24-70 II lenses that would provide minimal increases in IQ. I would love own those lenses but the cost is exceedingly great. I would rather spend the extra money on other lenses or accessories.

Weight is my biggest concern. The DOF offered by f/2.8 lens is not sufficiently shallow for me; I'll rather go for f/1.4 prime lenses. So, the 17-40 and 24-105 f/4 zoom lenses make sense to me.

I visit other forums and find it ludicrous when folks who used to own 24-70 f/2.8, 1D3 etc complain about size and weight, and want to switch to mirrorless cameras. :bsmilie: Just exchange them for DRebel (especially now there's the super lightweight SL1), some primes and lightweight zoom lenses already.

cos for most (if we discount those who truly need pro cameras for their work), carrying a pro body + L-lenses give them a certain cachet... only to realise later that it is not funny hanging 2-3kgs on ur neck for half a day...

hi guys, my 6d just arrived yesterday haha. finally can start shooting :)

first impression: its really small for a FF lol! the weight/size feels more like a aps-c body. need to get used to using the 8-way keypad for changing AF though lol. shutter is somehow very silent (even quieter than 5d3 on silent mode IMO).

looks like its going to be a great buy for me haha

Certainly a good buy! Except I heard complaints from people (w big hands) that the 6D is too small for comfort, but there's always a battery grip to enlarge...

nah its ok my hands isnt that big haha. but it does feel imbalanced when paired with a slightly bigger lens like 24-70 :P

can someone recommend any third party battery? or any brand or seller from ebay??

For 3rd party batts, I use Chromage brand, got them from Red Dot Photo at funan.. Latest ones decoded for the 6D.. so far so good.. No issues...

Ya, ya, ya... those folks with big hands will later complain DSLRs are too big and too heavy... they'll switch to mirrorless cameras... but before that, they'll whine about Canon lenses, colors, sensors, ergonomics.... so predictable. :bsmilie:

It's a circle of life..lol..just like mobile phones..came from brick phones.become small..then thin..then now bigger n bigger..later back to brick phones

people will give lame excuses to buy higher ends products. grip too small, VF not 100%, plastic body/lens is unusable, AF is too slow by 1ms, etc
