OFFICIAL: CANON EOS 6D - User Thread - Part 3

Hmmmm... if techno is not offering the freebies, then it is more worth it to get from local dealer since the gifts are worth more than $250 easily (Lightroom 4, Drybox, crumpler bag).

Plus the peace of mind of sending the camera to service centre for cleaning sensor, focusing screen (very common for this). All very expensive if encounter problems.

TG will only pay for repair if fault is due to manufacture defect. Most problem later will come from "non-manufacture" defects, and they will not honour.

Personal preference though. I will buy from dealer for peace of mind.

"At Techno Gadgets, all website purchases comes with a 12-month Locally Serviced Warranty which allows you to repair your camera/lens locally at an Authorised Service Centre (e.g., Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, etc.) provided that the fault is due to manufacture defect (Normal wear and tear or accidental damage are excluded). Once all the requisite documentation is provided to us, we will fully reimburse you."

$200++ can buy you 40mm stm, 50mm f1.8, some blower, cards, blackrapid, screen protector, and many items. TG pays for you when u repair at canon svc ctr, dont 4get. of coz some owners prefer buying local sets. i respect that

Have 2 focusing screen replaced for free on first week of ownership. QC not perfect.

yea i got it at 3157. Quite cheap considering local sets cost around 3.45k.... got a -$300 off with their local shop warranty as well (not really an issue as canon QC is usually very good)

not too sure what they consider 'non manufacturing defect' but i heard its the same exclusions as canon themselves. yeah i know some people prefer an ease of mind purchasing local sets, but people like me on a tight budget... a few hundreds make a big diff haha. i was actually considering getting from B&S but the price looks rock solid around 2.2-2.3k body only so it works out to be about the same price from TG.

Common issue. Didn't check thoroughly in shop as new stocks just arrive when i bought it. Went home and found small dust trapped in focusing screen (easily to check- just point your camera to a white surface with any lens on without the the lens cap and it should be clear without spots). Service centre found that it cannot be cleaned and replace a new one for free. Brought home and realised the new focusing screen has some dust too, so went back to service centre.

Good service there, as they replaced it for free.

Parts are quite expensive and if it is LCD issue with dead matrix, or sensor with dark spots or dead spots, it will definitely cost more than $200.

wow what went wrong with the first 2 screens?

Normal wear and tear will be excluded. Almost all issues can be considered "wear and tear". If it is manufacturing defect, you should be able to detect it within 1-week and if you have bought from a local dealer, they will replace a new set for you.

All this depends on luck. If you are "lucky" to always buy things with some issues (such as LCD monitor with dead dots, charger not working etc), then better buy from a local dealer.

Look in the priceguides thread, there is a shop list with phone numbers. Or you can use a website called Google, very easy to find phone numbers that way.

Hi, just wondering should I get the 24-105? Saw alot of people selling at BnS. Should I get the body only? Then buy tamron 24-70 or 50mm 1.4 or 40mm f2.8??

If you don't need the 24-105mm, then why buy it? You could buy the kit set and sell the lens but like you pointed out a lot of people are already selling this lens in BnS.

Depends on your needs...is this your first camera? Even if you have a compact camera you should be able to gauge which focal length you use often. If you hardly use between 70 - 105mm then consider the tamron. If you use 70 - 105 focal range often and want an all-in-1 lens then can consider 24-105.

Unsure? Buy body first then at most get 24-105 on BnS.

Can i get this body cheaper in KL compared to JB, techogadget or even HK?

6D with 24-105mm.

in kl, its about 7600rm.
which sums about 3.1k sgd based on 1: 2.45 exchange rate.

got the price quote from times square. they dont carry 2 years msia warranty anymore, back to 1 year warranty just like singapore.
