Must lock up my Dry-Caby.
BTW, satay16, dry caby is essential in high moisture country like Singapore, so get the dry cabi first.

Where got good deal for dry cabinet
Depends on what you planning to buy in the future. At first quite some members I know bought a small cabi like me, but end up have to upgrade to larger one later on.
But a small cabi will keep you away from purchasing lens, but that's apparently not true, as I know one KM member has stuffed a lot of lenses into a small cabi before
satay16 said:right now, i think i have no problem with choosing the size as i can always go to carrefour to compare. but confusion starts at which series to buy. AD, DHC or HD? all i know is HDC is most ex.

For cabinet, buy the biggest you can afford. For analog and digital, I'm using a analog version (not digi-cab, some other brand bought at Carrefour). Initially have to tweak the setting for the first few days to the level you want. After that, nothing else to change.
The HDC version is good if you want to spend more $$$.
some claim that 40-50% is best for camera equipment. Some fungal may grow at very low moisture level, and very low humidity may dry up the glue, grease etc thing inside the lens.satay16 said:what you mean buy tweak the settings? i thought just set the lowest humidity can liao? lowest is best right? or is it 0% humidity can spoil camera?
lenses are only a part of a photographer's repetoire, let the photos flow!satay16 said::bsmilie:
actually my line up not really great also mah. only got three lenses.
minolta 28 f2
sigma 18-50 f2.8
sigma 70-200 f2.8
see? compare to those lists that fills up one whole screen:bsmilie:
btw, for those pp who roughly know my whole lineup, which dry cabinet is more sutible for me?

tankm said:Lucky you ask....if you do that, one fine day, when you take out your lens from the cabinet, it becomes a rattler. :bsmilie:
For camera equipment, recommended setting is 45% to 55% humidity. Others have stated other range as well, all around there. Which one ? :dunno:
For those analog type and digital display type the humidifier control is seperated from the humidity meter. You set one setting at the humidifier and let it stabilize then read the meter and see if the setting is where you wanted. If not, then adjust +/-. This is slow process, may take few hours if you are on the ball or few days. Once you get it right, nothing to adjust anymore. There will be some deviation based on the room condition as well, but nothing much.
For the top of the range Digi-cab (Pro series), the meter and the humidifier are "linked" up together. You set the required humidity setting and the electronic take care of the rest to reach the humidity you set.
Using air-con as an example, the "analog type" will be aircon with just a dial to adjust from "cold" to "warm" with no way to set temperature. You will need a thermometer to measure the temperature and you keep tweaking the dial till you reach the required temperature.
The "Pro series" air-con type will be to set the temperature you wanted, the electronic will do the rest to achieve it.
satay16 said:hmmmm....but why need tweaking? cant we just set the lowest humidity setting availble? like if i want a very cold place, i just set my aircon to the lowest temperature availble. so if i want a very dry place, i just set it at the lowest setting available?
tankm said:Think you home air-con got some problem....either it's under power for your room size or the "gas" is leaking. ;p
The main point is you suppose to maintain the humidity between 45% to 55% for camera equipments. Setting to the lowest setting will not be within the range, unless the humidifier is broken, just like your air-con. ;p
satay16 said:haha, tankm just came to my house to drop of the lens. gave me a small talk about the dry cabinet too. thanks! nice seller! right now, my lens setup is complete for now, will be buying neccesities like tripods, dry boxes and bags, etc.
