Take a look at this site:

There are quite some good bird photos. It's a great tele lens, the longest that Pentax is still offering at the moment.
Wah, didn't check this thread for a day, grow so long already!
I think in terms of IQ, the DA*300mm won't loose out lah! Even wide open at f4, still sharp as a pin, and no easily visible optical flaws. But I think the bokeh won't be the same, no matter what longer lenses always have the edge there...
Want to run before even learn how to walk... brush up your technique first, and oh btw the shot's taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mk II and 400mm lah...![]()
Wah! Thats a big challenge. AFAIK, no serious birders here in the Pentax sub-forums. But, I'm sure they have some nice shots here and there that they will soon pull out.

IMHO, as Creampuff has mentioned as well. Technique is the main factor (get close, stable camera, proper technique (lighting :natural or flash; Tripod, etc), understanding of lens capability. Opportunity as well (how many shots you think was made to get those shots you and me posted as examples)
heres some pics with DA*300, hope it is useful
Bro, your pics really helpful especially with TC + DA*300 combo.
Thanks for the effort.![]()
Here are a few from F*300/4.5:

Optically the DA*300/4 is even slightly better than the F*300/4.5.
Does the lens performs the same on K-X vs other better Pentax bodies?
It only gets better when mounted on K-x![]()
