If you are ok with China made brand bags, then Sham Shui Po Apliu street is the best place for it. As for filters, the price really varies from shop to shop and from quote to quote. This is one item that have the most people get cheated since it is not a big ticket item and usually people don't do enough research on the pricing.

I would suggest you focus on a particular brand/model and ask around on the price. That way, you will not be overpaying for it.

hi.. anybody bought canon 430 ex II with international warranty recently in hk? any1 knows which shop still carries them?

Heard from a friend saying that in July in HK there will be a summer sale just like the great singapore sale. For her the sale is for clothing , shoe etc.

Questions
1)Does this sale include camera & electronic product ?
2)When is the typhoon season in Hong Kong ?

anyone can advice. Thanks

The HK summer sales is for change of season sales. So, it is perfect for people from Singapore to get good deals on summer clothing. But the sales does not extend to camera and electronic products.

The HK typhoon season is normally starting from June and ends around October.

Dear CS Tan

I'll be heading up HKG on the 25 Dec onwards for a week, any advise on a shop(trusted & honest) that i don't need to hunt around as my schedule is quite pack.

I'll be staying @ Mongkok area.

Thanks in advance.

Opps... I forgot to say i am looking for

16-35mm f/2.8L II IS USM
70-200mm f/2.8L II IS USM

if budget allows, 85mm f/1.2L II USM

Looks like 2 shops i see are trusted
Wing Shing
Tin Cheung
DCfever

I am looking to shop within Mongkok since i'm staying there and i have limited time to shop and hunt.

Please advise seniors in the house.

If you don't want to bargain, then Wing Shing is the best since they have fixed price on their items. Their price might not be the lowest but is very close to the market price. Their price applies to both cash and credit card so that is a plus for them.

Leave Wing Shing the last store to visit, you can check the price with the electronic stores around the area first . Fortress, Broadway and Citicall (some of them now called Suning) are reputable stores. Their price are quite competitive so you can have an idea about how much is the going rate. You can then decide whether you want to buy from Wing Shing.

As for Tin Cheung, I found that they sometimes will quote you a higher price so be careful.

Before going to HK, check the price from this website to get an idea about the current market rate:

I recently purchased a Nikon 35mm f2 Prime lens from Boardway, got it at a good price, cheaper compared to the other recommended stores.

Hi all, I'm currently in Hkg. Walked whole of Mongkok and non sells lens with Int'l Warrenty.

Anyone can help?

I was looking for 16-35 f/2.8L II USM and was retailing @ hkg$11300. Everyone sells at this price without int'l warrenty.

Just wondering, warrenty is 1 year? Will your lens be spoilt within a year? Any cons from buying just hkg warrenty?

People are starting to see the effect of Canon's worldwide local warranty policy. There is no more international warranty since October 1 for Canon HK. The ones that might still be available are the old stock. You might have to look at those smaller shops that has a lower turnover rate. But 16-35 being such a popular lens, I am afraid it might be quite hard to find one with international warranty now.

What you have to weight against is how much risk you want to take verses how much you save as compare to a SG local set and see whether the difference worth that 1-year warranty. However, worse come to worse, you can still send the lens back to HK if something happens since it is covered by the Canon HK warranty.

Hi CS

Yes a saving of about S$400.

Kept asking myself, worth the risk? I'm new so not sure life-span for per len.

Asked for 70-200mm f/2.8L II USM, also no int'l warrenty.

Looks like now to weigh S$400 savings versus 1yr warrenty.

Stupid question here, will lenes be damage within 1 year?

If it works during the first 10-14 days (that is the usual period for 1-for-1 exchange in HK), chances are it will work without problem. Most of the electronics parts will eventually aged and needs replacement but that should normally be after 5-10 years.

The other concern will be the lens might need calibration due to front/back focus but that is not going to cost you $400 if you send it in to SG CSC.

If I were you, I would go for it.

current 16-35 II prices in HK

seems OK and in-line within the ballpark lah (11,300hkd convert to sgd is sgd1,940) ... Singapore price is about sgd2400 ..... about sgd500 cheaper in HK

if u are back in Sg and did not buy it in HK (assuming u want to get this lens anyway) ...... u really bang balls..... with a $500 difference in price, u could well buy a budget plane ticket and take the lens back to HK if anything went wrong (which is not likely being an L lens) .... including hotel room for at least 1-2 nights and food

the ones selling below HKD11,000 are gray sets

HK warranty is OK....... they have MORE photographers than us and there is a full CSC there .........

did u buy it ?
