I would suggest going to Wing Shing at Fa Yuen Street. Over the stretch of Fa Yuen Street, there are quite a few camera shops/electronic chain stores such as Cam2, Fortress, Citicall (SUNING), Broadway and Chung Yuen. You can also visit Sim City at Shan Tung Street which is just a couple of blocks away from Wing Shing.

Here is a Google Maps direction from your hotel to Wing Shing: GOOGLE MAP DIRECTION

Thanks CS TAN. Dunno what can i do to show my appreciation. U need anything from Singapore? PM me. ;)

Will be staying in Metropark Mongkok, 22 Lai Chi Kok Road. So which shop will be the nearest (walking) cos I am thinking to get lenses and spent the rest of the trip for my family.

i did a google search... your location is very far... although hotel name contains mongkok, your hotel is no way near Mongkok MTR

good luck fren... :p

u may just want to take a MTR to Mongkok MTR stn and focus your shopping trip around shops nearby this station.

My hotel is nearer to 太子 MTR。1 MTR away or 5 streets away. Hmm, under the cool cool weather walking and thinking of the lenses will make me smile. :bsmilie: (no idea abt my kid n wify though)

Actually the MTR stations are all very close one another. But considering you are with your family, maybe start after lunch or something. The shop usually open from 11am onwards on weekdays, some later at 12pm or 1pm.

There is a street called "xi yang chai".
The other time i was there, i asked every shop i can find/see on the street. :D

I will be staying there during my HK trip too... :)

Would be nice if you could share your photography shopping experience there when you are back.

Do have a enjoyable trip.

Cheers. :)

First off, I want to thank CS TAN for providing and maintaining this fantastic thread. Thanks.

I was in HK in April this year but found the prices, after converting to S$, to be similar to Singapore.
However with the recent exchange rate in S$ favor of about 20%, compared to my trip in April, most camera equipment are now 20% lower.

When I was in HK a week ago, I stayed in a hotel close to Echo Photo.
They quoted me a Canon lens which came to about 21% cheaper and I was fortunate enough for it to carry Int warranty. Unpacked the lens to test. Was happy with it and bought it.
Before I left, I asked Mr Yip, recommended staff to look for by Roland Lim, to suggest an eatery for dinner. He directed me to a restaurant behind Echo. Halfway through my dinner, Mr Yip arrived with my lens hood that I have forgotten to pack. That's Service.

I also visited Wing Shin at Fa Yuen Street a few days later. That same lens were a little cheaper. But I'm not complaining. Think Echo as John3.16 equivalent.

So for you guys going to HK, good time to pick something up while the exchange rate works for us.

Hi guys... Was wondering does anyone knows what is the cheapest price u saw for 5DmkII over at HK?

Thanks to CS for his help and advice.
My comments on the shops
I bought my stuff mainly at DC Fever. I would suggest you do your home work before you go, take what they tell you with a pinch of salt. Best is to know the lens you are buying and not take advice from them.
Their price is quite similar to Wing Shing, only a teeny bit cheaper if you pay by cash. I would trust the employees at Wing Shing more. DC Fever only allows testing if you are ok with the price and buying the lens, no testing to see if you like the lens. Also, they are quite reluctant to let me try another copy when I was unhappy with the first copy, but they subsequently did let me try another lens

For a better buying experience, I would prefer buying from Wing Shing. I did ask for a hoya 82mm filter at WS, but they showed me a kenko one instead. I was nearly mistakened as the packaging looked similar.

Camera bags are not cheaper in HK. From the websites and actual checking of prices, Thinktank, Kata and Lowepro are either similarly priced vs Singapore or slightly more expensive. I guess the distributor has a higher mark up vs Singapore or it's a controlled price by manufacturers

For Canon, I think the International Warranty stocks are mostly gone. Now only left with HK Warranty stocks only

You're tempting me to go visit there someday. Wonder where I can find good deal for legacy glass/ camera and old films. Had a bad purchase with e-bay recently and realize that I prefer to see seller when shopping for item.

A visit to the dolphin performance and shopping district and I don't think there will be any problem with everyone:bsmilie:

Hi guys, do you guys know whether Wing Shing sells Photo Clam Ballheads?

Thanks.

how much is a sigma 30mm f1.4 in HK? me going on monday hotel is near the lady street. any shop there selling?

With a baby pram, I conquer HK. Here my take:

Prices are bery close to http://www.price.com.hk but I find that WingShing and TinCheung prices for lenses are cheaper. Fortess, Sunning, Broadway though display their prices, but when u approach their staffs, prices can be reduced.

Lenses are relatively cheaper but not all the accessories. I'm planning to get some b+w filters from TC but their prices not so attractive. Better get from merchant from Mass Sales.

Dun expect to get a further discount from WS and TC. (These 2 shops I got my lenses) Ask to round down to nearest HK$10 also cannot, maybe they never mark-up? But WS gave me a free Nikon luggage-belt instead. :bsmilie:

Getting ard in HK is a breeze if u know how to read map/direction. Going to Disney/Ocean Pk or these camera shops, MTR is the best mode of transportation.

ps: TC is located at the 2nd floor of SINCITY in Mongkok. Almost can't find the shop as I expect them located along the main rd like the rest.

disclaimer- Do ur homework 1st and the above is base on my personal opinion.

Tin Cheung's main store is in Tsim Sha Tsui. The one at Sim City is relatively smaller.
