Dear all CSers,

With effect from 1st February, whoever organiser that pose their matketing advertisment will have to pay to CD. I'm not sure the payment is on monthly/weekly/yearly/per Ad. Thus, this will either increase cost for organiser or higher cost for photographer to shoot.

In order to maintain the cost for photographer to have models shooting or any outdoor activities, please contribute your idea if you have better solution for this advertisement purpose.

I believe photography is a very professional hobby and career. Hope to maintain or improve the photography activities as before for all photograpghers.

Don't let money ocntrols you. Please controls the money going out from your pocket.

Please give your opinion about this. Thank you.

Hi all,

As this information has now been leaked out into the open (we are curious to know how/who/why, but that is now probably irrelevant), let me clarify the upcoming changes (which have been communicated to all current workshop/model shoot organisers) and which we are still working out the final details with their feedback.

Essentially, with effect from 1st February 2007, organisers of workshops and paid model shoots in which a member is paying a fee to the organiser to participate will have to subscribe to one of several options to be able to post his/her shoots. We have tailored the options based on the past activities and charges of the workshop/shoot organisers.

Please bear in mind that the subscription charges are not exorbitant and should not significantly raise prices of participation to members. The revenue from the subscription (as with all our other charges) will go towards offsetting the maintenance and bandwidth of this site, for the benefit of all.

We will be publishing the details of the subscription packages on 1st February 2007, but as I said earlier, the current shoot organisers have all been notified and some have already signed up.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. In the interests of transparency (although we are definitely dismayed at the information leak and posting in the open), we will keep this thread open for feedback and comments.

It's kinda inevitable people wants a piece of the pie.

However, I really doubt people can really make a lot of money from organizing.

If it’s the profitability that is driving the mass of new photoshoots available, then it’s a good thing for CS members isn’t it. However, what's good for CS member may not be exactly good for CS :embrass:

From my observation, it seems that some non-professional organizers are doing it so they can shoot for free, or to defray some of their shooting costs. :D

We should be very happy, if not encourage, all these people to bring in new faces/models/ideas for a diverse choice of shoots. I foresee once people get tired of the usual, we will get more variety.

So my take is NOT to collect fees at this moment in time, at least not from fellow non-professional (meaning people do not work/depend on Fashion, Advertsing, Modelling, Media, Talent management industries, etc) CS members.

caspere,

sorry if my comment here offened you. what i need to express is only more focusing on hobby rather than money or profesionalism. I just take this as a hooby, maybe different kind view from others. I just hope organiser still carry on their activities so that for those shoots lover still can shoot what they want. I'm a beginner and just love shooting.

Maybe i need more advice from more experience professional photographer like you in future. If you don't pls share with us about your shooting experience.

Thanks for your comment anyway.

Happy shooting

Most things are not free on this planet, so I think it is OK

Why don't make them subscribe to the webspace at CS? Special "advertiser rates" instead of fees. More admin work...

i think this is great....participant rates still maintained..

Thanks aspere for your info...i love it.......ups for you

how did you conclude that 'participant rates still maintained'?

Hello HLHKO

Dont worry Caspere is not petty or offended. He has a point share.

Really what is the rationale behind all these? To defray cost of website maintenance?

Frankly speaking, by paying a token to CS when org a shoot then I can kind of expect organisers to privately a shoot

Jeff49er,

After i read the info post by caspere, i think that it is very reasonable decision by CS. Maintenance cost is always a must for everybody. I'm not offended by caspere, but appreciate highly for the info from him.

Thanks for your info & understanding too.

I don't have a problem that CS wants to recover some of the cost of running the forum.

From experiences, it's not cheap. A healthy formun is one that is self sustaining.

However, what I am very concern with is what about those occasional organisers? These people are as important in organising shoots and workshops. They should be allowed to recover cost or even make a profit. Does it now means, if I am not subscribing to one of several options, I am not allowed to organise shoots?

Let say, I have a good idea for a shoot, I want to bring it to the members of CS, I have to subscribe to one of the approved options first, before I can post my shoot? What if it is an one time thing, still need to upgrade my CS membership, from my free ?account to one of the approved options?

I am not trying to make things difficult, as a matter of fact, I do support the move, just that feel my concern is valid and need to be clarified.

i am not a organiser myself, but from what i see, affected organisers will have reduced profit margins if they are not going to raise the price.

and i also do not know if they are even earning from organising shoots too.

i believe cs members should support these organisers more.

Well, not all organisers here are out to make a cut from organising shoots etc... Having to consider this additional cost really isn't something I will welcome. The function of a forum is for members to connect to each other, a network.

Now, let's say I want to organise an outing to Pulau Ubin for nature shooters. Do I still need to pay? I think it should be left as it is and the forum serve as a medium for people to get together. People want free things. If there is another free forum, I bet many will move over there.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course, I do see the point of having to pay
Someone's maintaining the forum and he still needs to eat and live. He can't be doing it for free.

The need for organisers to pay will have to deter those unorganised organisers from coming up with crappy shoots just to make a cut out of it. There, we can see more quality shoot being organised.
