This type of case common in Singapore? I pray not. Nationality & race aside, some people just dont seem to understand the strong & deep feelings of anger at irresponsible driving that cause such a tragic accident with the loss & destruction of innocent lives, & human sufferings. This is different from hate arising from racism, there is no need to be defensive. Neither is there a need for a judge to pass sentences before people can comment or criticize from what they can see. Does one expect people to just smile & say "oh its just an accident, nobody really want it to happen you know", "its all fated", "who are people to judge when they are not directly involved" etc... ?

From the video, its clearly evident that the traffic lights were in favour of the taxi. If one is driving a fast car, which is like a lethal ballistic weapon, extreme caution should be exercised especially in city areas. Can see more of these fast cars roaring & zipping around like they on a F1 racetrack & people on roadside cursing, swearing under their breath that the drivers are like rushing to be reincarnated & may they reach their destinations soon, which is hell.

And what has changes in times, values & laws, if any, got to do with all this. That these accidents are normal, acceptable & to be expected now??? That one cannot or need not feel the pains & griefs of the victims & their families?

any laws to force the ferrari driver family to compensate the victims? i guess not.. lets' hope the family have the conscience to do so.. not breaking the law does not mean you do not break the moral law.

Laws or not aside, if indeed the Ferrari driver was at fault, I really don't think that any amount of money will make up for the loss of the life of a family member.

My own view is that having such a law seems to imply a stand that this is the case, and that the victims' families are duly compensated for the loss of life with the transfer of money. That just doesn't seem right to me.

no, the law only exist to govern and to make order. it may have its limit in justifying things..

they cause it, they ought to be responsible. when u break someone's equipment, u will compensate right? even though that camera may be a present from his wife that has sentimental value. this is the best one can do.

edit: or do u mean that having such a law may make the driver thinks that he can compensate, so he can drive more recklessly? if so, then i guess u do have a point..

Ken Rockwell? The guy who posts reviews on equipment that haven not yet been announced? Haha

The sad part seeing The Straits Times on the charm offensive for the PRC Ferrari driver.

The photos on ST is focused on the PRC driver families and not the uncle taxi driver and the abang motorcyclist.
It does reflect the depressing state of reality for the government controlled media here really. Two others dead and not to mention a mother who have to go through Mother's Day without his beloved son who died serving his country in a separate accident and yet the emphasis is to paint the Ferrari driver in a more sympathetic light.

although i understand the reason for them to do so, but i really find it funny that they do not think it will backfire?? or maybe such tactics do work...

Then and now, times and values and laws have changed.

I don't really think that values and laws have changed that much, specially when we are talking about lost lives.

The issue here with this case is that people feel angry when so much attention was given to the ferrari driver, to probably sensationalized the entire accident. yet, none is given to the other victims.

just found out the taxi passenger is a friends friend. she wasn't a tourist as someone said. very sad. so young.

The screengrab above is 04:09:04. The crash occurred exactly at 04:09:21. From the shots, it looks like it is from the same camera. So this was the shot before the crash. The blue taxi (2nd car from right) has quite pronounced tail lights - probably the taxi did stop and those were the stop lights being on. The car on the rightmost seems to have made the turn right and so was not visible in the crash video. We need to see the whole footage but it seems that the taxi did stop properly at the red light, and proceed to move off at the green light - when it was hit broadside by the red Ferrari (which was so fast in the video that it was just a blur).

This one shows that the taxi uncle was stopping at the red light before moving off and kena langgar.

Traffic Police and LTA road planners need to re-examine this road junction carefully. This is a known accident prone area. Why is this so?
Any contributing factors in the way the road is planned?
Could the placement of traffic lights at this junction have been confusing to drivers i.e. both the Ferrari driver and the taxi driver thought they had a green light to go ahead.
Any need for road bumps to slow down potential speeding drivers?

They can tackle on another front. Expensive sport car drivers need to go for regular yearly talks and lessons on how not to speed on regular roads. Ethics lessons for potential errant drivers.
Because the natural human tendency is to want to show off in a fast + expensive car and speed. They want to emulate their fave movie stars and copy the dramatic movie car chases.
