Hi guys, shared something in money making point of view (on using 5D2)
1) Photography
I can offer my clients shooting varieties. If a clients asked me, are you able to shoot and print into a wall size picture? And with details? First impression, I am thinking they are expecting me to use medium format camera to take the picture using high megapixels and good color dynamic range.
Of course, owning a MF is an expensive system (range $30k - $100K), but most of us are unable to afford it. Another way is to interpolate the pictures with low megapixels step by step to a bigger size, but this way could also stress the details of the pictures. With 21 megapixel, one of the higher pixels in the DSLR and the entery level to MF, I could say the turn out of the picture in wall size is good and at 14 bits. The resources used are afforable as compared to MF and more varieties can be offered in choice of lens and equipment. I can quote my clients at a relax price which they can be smiling.
For events and sports, I can just switch to the lower sRAWs. Of course, you may think 3.9 fps and AI forcusings are not strong enough to meet these needs. I can assured you they are sufficient, once you know what and how to take, one or two frames should be good enough. A bit of practice will do.
I do owned a MK3, but I limit my frames per second to 3 and also using one shot or maybe sometime AI servo to assist. Friends who know me, know I can take action in sniping mode. :bsmilie:...but to achieve this I had practiced hard, like the pictures I took in F1 sepang which some of the panning shots were taken using 5D one shot.
2) Videography
We can't escape the fact that video mode included in the DSLR. The customer's expectation are getting higher. They want this and that, but in an affortable price. This will cause me to rethink the way how to stragized my package to them.
Take photojournalism as an example. You will always see photographers paired up with videographers for every news. The personal of interest will have to squeeze through them.....ending?. With video mode built into the DSLR, we only need one man show and also cut down the resources to send bunch of people to cover the news.
Of course, the person who is covering this had to learn certain video knowledge. But treat this as an additional knowledge. Learning more things are for own beneficial and advantage. As least for me, I have to start reading and practice videography.
Combined with wireless, the news can be transmitted faster to broadcast station through higher broadband in future. And cut short in travel time and transportation allowance, which due to oil price increase. The news broadcasting will be more efficient.
3) Photography + Videography
This is always my favourite. I am thinking how to package these together for my clients. Hey, why not combined them into presentation CD. Using current capable editing software, We can combined the pictures with videos into presentation media. Another way to attract customers, good for those in the wedding and corporate industries. Or maybe advertising.
Product presentation in the web will be more colorful, with pictures of the product in one side and video in the other. No need to take top, down, left and right of the product, but represent it in video form. It will be another main source of attractions.
Finally, you may asked, how much to build such system for a start. I say less than $10k, with one 5D2 + high end system + good editing software.
These are my views on using 5D2 to attract customers. Cheers!
Apologies on my gammars and spellings....I only got a C5 in my English. :embrass:
