Impressive.. The rolling shutter isn't that bad compared to D90. With the experience Canon has in video, this kind of quality should be expected though.
they are just putting their expertise into a different machine. wonderful. =D

C'EST MAGNIFIQUE!!!!! Kneel down, Nikon, kneel down before Canon's cinematic 5D2!!!! Hahaha!!!! :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Just putting things together.

Check out REVERIE, an independently-produced video shot with a DSLR camera. The DSLR camera in question is the new Canon EOS 5D MKII (U.S. Site) & (Japan Site).

Also check out Vincent Laforet's Blog for behind-the-scene featurette.

You can compare clips samples between Canon EOS 5D MKII and the Canon XH A1 camcorder. I think Canon XH A1 owners can throw away the camcorder liao. ;D

Coming soon, RED 3K SCARLET, another product to watch. RED is a cinema digital camera maker and they are producing a DSLR camera, SCARLET which probably does what the Canon EOS 5D MKII can do. Looks like RED is going back to their drawing boards as they have retracted the SCARLET info page.

Enjoy and awe.

A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just when I thought the luminous 5d2 video blew me away... here's the one that'll trigger my Hollywood career as a film director hahahaha!!

Now this rear design is WHAT i want the future XXD models to have - the left row of buttons rather than cramped bottom...as with the older 30D and below line :D

Just a thought. When you are on a helicopter ride above the Grand Canyon...do you shoot pictures or do you shoot video?;p

look like we need to be happy "video"shopping now, rather than photoshopping..

You can shoot both... at the same time! I think I saw in the specs that the 5DII allows stills to be taken while in video capture mode.

er, 2 cameras, left hand video right hand picture...?

now i know why there is 100gb cf card..

HOLY COW!!!!! This video really makes my jaw drop! Put me on the order list.... NOW! :D

You are thinking from an average joe user point of view which Canon isn't targeting at all. Photojournalist, wedding photographers, indie video production, stock shooters will love what the 5D Mark II is offering.

Com'on, an average Joe will love to use a PnS camera with all the functions. Who would wanna bring such a bulky expensive equipment for an 'average Joe' usage? As a photographer yourself, do u really use that function? I dun think any wedding photgrapher will wanna use video function on their DSLR & miss out some special moments in shots. Video production, is a class of its own, as using a spade as a spade. Not a hammer. Though it can do the job sometimes, but it cant do it well everytime. Perhaps, photojournalist may need it to show some impressive scenery or unique clip. Otherwise, I think he better change his profession to Video Journalist or become a NeoGeo Travel show host instead.

As I'd said on my earlier post that 5D mk II's main attracting factors to me are the FF (at that price range), sensor dust removing & better LCD monitor. The rest I can simply get a HD camcorder for its purpose. As for higher resolution, it is good to have but not a must-have for now(as 5D has already had an impressive resolution already).

I believed you have frenz holding on to those PnS which have video function. How many videos are there in their collections? Did they make a clip out of it? And is it alot? How many times they view it before deleting it away? Or maybe forgotten about it after storing somewhere in their HDD.

Of coz the debating factor is whether 5D mk II is worth buy because of these few 'added' functions. I would say if video function is what you are looking for. Go buy a camcorder.

Of coz this camera will sure be sellable because many will think like you do. Canon's packed all these features into 5D mk II is juz a value added to boost its 'New Evolution' & also because its competitors are doing so. And it is supposely the 'trend' now, abit disappointing though.

If 1Ds mk III is almost same price as 5D mk II that is without video function, which will you get? For me, 1Ds mk III anytime...:)

Happy taking videos!

An average joe would not know what is it like to have the ability to shoot 1080p H.264 video.

An average joe would not know what is it like to have the ability to shoot with such crazy amount of DOF

An average joe would not know that the only HD CAM out there that has the ability to shoot with such amount of DOF is Panasonic P2 which cost 40K just for the body alone

An average joe would not understand how come why only P2 can do that and why Canon XL H1 professional camcorder series can't.

An average joe would be puzzled that since this 5DII has this ability but yet so cheap and why panasonic P2 cost a bomb.

An average joe would not know how it is like to shoot 1080p H.264 video and be able to mount or carry around with such ease because of such a small body

An average joe would not know that this is a full frame 35mm sensor capturing 1080p H.264 video while the average HD cam only has a tiny sensor.

So an average joe would not understand what it like to have such crazy DOF on 1080p H.264 video as the average HD cam with its tiny sensor has zero DOF

THUS an average joe would compares this to a regular HD cam because he does not understand video at all

and so an average joe would rather spend money to buy the average consumer grade HD cam over this 5DMK2 as he would think this is just a trend and a gimmick.

and ultimately an average joe would definitely not feel that this is an evolution as he does not understand not only canon is creating such a powerful tool that captures amazing 1080p H.264 video with crazy DOF and also has the ability to switch lens from a wide range of professional lens lineup (which used to be only be achieved by $XX,XXX equipment), it is also bridging the gap between photograph and video media.

All this, and we have not yet touch on its photograph ability yet

Thanks triotary. You saved me from all the typing. LOL!!!

thats alot of average joe(s) indeed..

 for sharing anyway.

i wonder if canon would introduce video lights into its evolution
