D90

actually, a HD ready video only requires about 1 MP of resolution, the 12Mp CCD is far more than enough to produce good HD video clips.

It's not the resolution but the frame dimension. ;p

Shooting kids will be damn shiok without needing to pump light.

I probably will be getting the D90 to replace my D70. D200 still stays.
If you guys are interested i can compare with say a Canon XH A1.
Guess the colour depth/resolution will suffer, but noise control might even be better. But opps, no media to display 1/2 HD other than direct. See how. Lots of weddings in Sept/Oct to try low light.

I'll mount the 30/1.4!

Hmm... Shallow DoF without AF will make it difficult.

Why would colour depth suffer? I think M-JPEG should be able to give better quality than current digital video formats. No? ;p

Your videographer friends will be able to tell you more. Basically its the 3CCD thingy and some other minor factors.

Shallow DOF, just master it not too difficult. 1/2HD easy to focus. If you trained on 85mm 1.4 its a piece of cake.
Some VGs also manual, and in cinematography I think there is no AF too. No hoohaa....

Next time scarly they include it for FX use, and with the enormous processing/storage available in the future, we could see full HD type, 300-1000fps frame video for special effects. Like what you see in the Olympics slow-mo footage (which you can even see the 50/60Hz flicker of the HID lamps, that's why its useless to try to lock in the WB under such lighting). Actually we have the Casio EX F1 now with 1000fps video. Never say impossible. Do a search last time in this forum, just 2+ years ago many were still advocating Nikon will never adpot full frame and pushing all the benefits of DX. :D

actually, since we don't know how Nikon polls the sensor to obtain the image, we can't really tell if the colour would definitely be not as good as a 3 sensor system...

as there are far more 'pixels' than what is needed, Nikon could read only certain ones to obtain the required resolution, and this would require interpolation to produce colour for each pixel, resulting in the usual inferior colour production of single sensor cameras...

or it could pick a few dots which combine to give readouts in all three colours and bin them into one pixel, thus obtaining a 'true' colour readout from the combination of the dots... and also result in better absolute resolution as well, as no interpolation would have been required... :)

this is of course speculation and we will only know when more tests are done or info is released...

What's 3 puny little CCD compared to a huge bayer array sensor downsized to 720p? ;p

Oh yeah.. but I guess some people will struggle with that. That's why I say no AF not a big deal for people who shot movies on film before. ;p

Yeah... looks like competitive pressure can really make them go FX. They had to come up with new FX lenses, but people still buy..

Leslie from John 3:16 predicts 1st week of October when D90 hits stores ;)

be glad they used the new 920k dot 3.0" LCD instead those oldie 230k dot LCD. :bsmilie: definitely helps a whole damn lot when it comes to focusing using the LCD in D-movie mode.

Shucks.. I thought I could have my birthday present by then... ;p

unfortunately for me, i have gotten used to the noise level of the FX cameras :(

Seeing the sample images from imaging-resource.com just reaffirmed my decision to lay down my moolah for this baby! D300-matching high ISO performance is a solid chop plus confirm!
We have yet to hear or read about the metering results but for now, I am plenty convinced that the D90 is going to sell as well as the D80, and perhaps even more!

if Nikon doesn't do an FX motion picture/DSLR camera of some sort (I'm still for modular camera option;)), RED might...:sweat::heart:

I suppose RED's definition of full frame is S35 which is not much larger than a DX frame?
