O yah, I have forgotten that the mirror is already up during video shooting...., there should not be any shutter sound. Great. Just hopefully there is no glitch in the movie when a shot is taken in the middle of the movie.:)

We have to see how this is implemented, because shutter is already open during liveview.
Maybe, if you film in M mode, there is no need for the shutter to close and open again.

If you just want video, then perhaps you could consider just getting a handycam instead. Good enough for videos of you baby girls. No need to just upgrade, just because of the latest gadget.

Dpreview has got a hands-on preview already http://www.dpreview.com/news/0808/08082702nikond90previewed.asp

I am probably going to upgrade my Panasonic DV camcorder to this. ;p I think it's probably cheaper than a good Sony Handycam. I'm pretty sure the noise handling for low light situation would be better on the D90.

Do you think it would be interesting to shoot videos with a Lensbaby attached to the D90?

I can frame up my F30 after I buy D90. :bsmilie:

Amazon

I will be getting one from local retail shop becoz SG Nikon only recognise local warranty, so I won't pre-order from those online website.

You can go dpreview and see the comparison of the features D80 with D90

see this D90 thread makes me wanna laugh. I still remember the exact ppls in this thread taht mentioned that a dslr is a CAMERA, NOT A VIDEO CAM.

and somemore those ppl who made the comment that "a dslr is a CAMERA, NOT A VIDEO CAM." went to make sarcastic remarks to newbies who said that having video capability is great and a necessity.

In the end u guess wat happen? the exact same ppls who made the sarcastic remarks are now clamouring how great it is for a DSLR to have video function, and how useful it will be compared to a video cam. wat a joke these jokers :bsmilie::bsmilie:

Thanks for replying. Any idea when it will be arriving in singapore and how much?

i'm more interested in the cmos sensor iso performance only...video is good to have but not a must.

I'm getting this primarily for the movie mode actually. When I was hunting for a good camcorder, none of the well known ones like HV20 could satisfy my lowlight requirements or video quality. They may sport 1080 HD but on such a small sensor compared to the D90 which is a gazillion times bigger I don't think they can hold a candle to the D90 even if it is 720 HD. I really dun mind manual focus. The one which gets me worried is that exposure may be auto only.

mmm.... will the video quality be better than a dedicated Video cam like canon HV20?

I will be really surprised if it is better than a good canon video cam like HF100 or HV20.

I read from one of the previews, that you actually need to set the proper ISO and exposure settings before you take the video, but I think u can set it to auto too if u want to. Only think is that I don't think u can change the settings while the movie is recording. This may be a problem for some scenes I think....if let's say u want to shoot inside an underground tunnel, and as u approach the end of the tunnel and come out into daylight, won't the exposure be blown-out?

We won't know until we get the D90 in our hands. In terms of handling the HF100/HV20 will be all over the D90. In terms of lowlight and DOF, I'm pretty confident that it will be the other way around. The key thing here is the sensor size. The HF100/HV20 has the sensor size of a PnS.

Well it is ver 1.0

Maybe I should wait for the D90x instead of being a guinea pig. Or wait for other manufacturers versions especially those who are already well-versed in video like Sony and Canon. But then again Sony or Canon may not make their versions too good as it will eat into their prosumer or even pro line. Nikon on the other hand has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Just by announcing the D90 they get to gain additional video people to buy their Nikkor lenses which I think is their main purpose. There in itself is a huge market.

To be honest, I never even thought Liveview is something which is important to me. But I was sold when I saw the D-Movie clips in the D90 Microsite. It did not occur to me that videos shot with DSLR lenses could be visually that good. My impression of videos were always poor. Now I know why people who have shot movies on film are willing to spend so much for 35mm adapters to mount on their video cameras.

I think it's how Nikon marketed it as D-Movie. It's not video. It's D-Movie. High Def 720p (1080 would be better) 24fps. If it were the kind of video quality like what the PnS gives, then I give it a pass.

I see this innovation as something which sits between a video camera and a film camera. People who shoots on 8mm and 16mm film before would appreciate this innovation much more than video people would.

Still at that point in time where those remarks were made, people were saying they would rather buy a PnS rather than a DSLR because it could shoot video. I think many of us who made the remarks were not wrong. I'd still choose a DSLR over a PnS for shooting stills. Now I'd even choose a DSLR over a video camera for shooting movie-like videos.

However, I won't say having video in a DSLR is a necessity, but the way it's implemented makes it more appealing to me for someone who has never considered video to be appealing.

actually, a HD ready video only requires about 1 MP of resolution, the 12Mp CCD is far more than enough to produce good HD video clips.
