Hi all, have a question to ask. For a portrait shot, with AF 50mm f1.8D how can I focus on 2 faces each standing on the extreme left and right of the photo and yet maintain a large aperture? For my AF setting I set to manual selection of the 11pt AF.

Currently when I focus on one, the other will go blurred.

Why does this question sound so familiar?
Edit: Oh.. there's a thread here..

You got to make sure both are in the same plane of focus. DoF is very thin at large apertures.

Thanks, the info is helpful. but it didnt mention where to set the AF point? or it doesnt matter since they are in the same plane?

if the subjects are standing at the same plane of focus, then it doesnt matter where the AF focus point is.

Hi Guys,

Just bought Nikon D90 Kit 18-105mm for a gift. Bought it from SLR Revolution at Funan. Very surprise by their friendly and professional service I receive from them. Obviously they know I know nuts about camera but the guys is nice enough to give me advise and show me how to setup the camera. Recommend the filter and tell me the different kind of filters available from cheap to the more expensive one. How to put the lense and how to protect it. Got the D90 kit, SD card, filter all for 1698

Supposed to get it from Alan Photo but the sales guy super arrogant. I guess he think I'm there for fun. This ah beng looking guy, around 40 plus. Not even interested to show me the camera and when I ask one question he give me one reply back.... simply give me that "get the hell away from me" attitude. The sucks part is, he seems to be so interested to show products to Ang Moh guys. Saw him serving an Ang Moh before me and the ang moh didn't buy. Later after bad experience from him, I walk pass the store and saw him serving another ang moh and taking out the camera and showing the angmoh.

Wanted to get from Cathay, email them but took them quite a while to reply, thus decided to call them and was quoted $1785 for the D90 Kit 18-105mm (no free gift). Friday afternoon got a reply from my email, D90 Kit 18-105mm the offer me at 1560 before GST, after GST would be 1669. Saturday before I decide to buy I call them to see if I'm being offer that price but was told the D90 Kit 18-105mm price would be $1750. Give up and decided to ignore them. Don't know why all the different quotes man. I guess if I come down there and demand for the price quoted in the email is possible but I guess I get better value from SLR Revolution.

Anyway, the guy who receive the gift really love it and thats so cool, thanks to SLR Revolution. I wasn't that confident with them at first because never heard of them, usually Cathay, Alan or John but they proof me wrong. The sales person at SLR Revolution even told me that I can ask the recipients of the gift to come down to the store if he is not sure about the camera but he advise to come down on weekdays when its not crowded. Logical enough.

hi, I guess you just attended by unfriendly sales person. i went to alan photo at sim lim, the guy quoted me 1666 for D90 with kit lens. so it's about the street price, but it's lower than the price which john and ms color quoted me (1750 and 1699), it's quite reasonable even if they don't give any free gifts.

however, i took body only with tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 VC, total cost me 2380 with 8G SD, cleaning kit and UV filter at discount offer. though no freebies given, the guy served me well, he took out 3 lens (kit lens, old version tamron without VC and the new version with VC) and let me tried them out with D90 to compare. so i'm very satisfied with the service by him, if he gave me some free gifts, i'll be happier, haha.

initially, my friend recommended me to john, according to him, they provide good service. but a guy from john quoted me the highest street price, never mind, then i asked for free gifts, the guy shut me up with an unpleasant tone, i was very unhappy. so i walked away, and visit ed the opposite shop, the guy quote me 1666, but must purchase together with kit lens, and when i asked for free gifts, the guy politely told me they don't have promotion currently. it's a new shop which i never heard before but at least they serve customer well with good manners.

i'm happy with my D90 with new tamron lens, so far it hasn't given me any issue yet. may be it's heavy to others, about 1.2 kg with lens, but when i hold it, it gives me a solid feel. ;)

how much is the tamron 17-50 vc?
is there have any connection problem with D90?

Upgraded from D60 to part of D90 family. ;)

Got 1 question to ask you guys. When I turn on/off my D60 there will show the image sensor cleaning, but for the D90 after it turn on this feature. I turn it on, the screen did not show "image sensor cleaning". Is this normal, and is my sensor cleaning working?

There is a cleaning function in the SETUP MENU which you can activate it manually or set to auto clean during start up the D90.

I activated it. But when you turn on ur D90, does the screen show the auto cleaning?

I was about to but a D90 body when i saw "D90 (HK)" on the box and the warranty states "D90 (HK Set)". Is this normal or a grey set? The warranty looks diff from what I got previously. Will Nikon Singapore honour the warranty? I didn't buy the set though

think there's a set somewhere abt Nikon changing the warranty card design...
btw which shop is it, if it's a reputable shop u should be fine

Ive sent my D90 in NSC for contact problem in the lens. Before i send to NSC my last shutter count is 299. When i receive it after 10 days, i just take a look at my shutter count and it became 795. So it means that the NSC technician test my camera many times before they ask me to collect it back?

So far no more issues from the contact. and NSC customer service very good, overall good service..

is there a screen auto cleaning function?? never get to use tat function, what is it about?

It's the sensor cleaning function, not the screen. It vibrates the low pass filter covering the sensor at high frequencies to dislodge dust particles. You can opt to perform auto cleaning at power on/ shutdown from the settings. Mine doesn't show the cleaning screen either.

well, how often do we need to do this sensor cleaning function? sound it is quite important to do it. I never notice got this function at all.. keep using for quite a period of time already.

Oh, thanks for the telling. :)

Well I leave it on all the time to be safe, not sure if D90's sensor will behave as a dust magnet like the prev gens..
