I HATE NIKON!!!
I upgrade to D200, 1 month later D300 announce.
I upgrade to D300, now 1 month later D700 announce!!!
I resisted D100, bought D70. Resisted D200, and was resisting D300 until a few weeks ago, just before the leaked D700 materials came out. Bought the kit during GSS. So maybe double whammy - D700 and SB-900?
So I wondered if I should be like kenthsg - hate Nikon?
First of all, it was nothing personal, Nikon has to push new products now and then. So if you are not early adopter, as I am, sure within short time frame you'll end up with new model after you buy your "dream camera".
I eventually convinced myself to buy D300 3 weeks ago even though the FX version was rumoured to be coming out soon was this - my predicted price of the FX version was around $4k, taking into account D3 and D300 prices - almost smack in the middle. So I could
(a) cough out $4k and be early adopter, and soon sweat real hard when the next generation goes for ~$2.5k in a year or two.
(b) enjoy D300 at ~$2.1k for a year or two and then buy presumably D800 for ~$3k, or used D700 for $1.5k in a year or two.
I chose option (b) cause I can enjoy D300 and get "D800" for roughly the price of D700 today, only limitation I imposed myself is no FX for 2 more years.
And my decision is to keep both DX and FX format, so that when I want to shoot portraiture, group photos, wide angles, etc I go FX. When I want to have the extra reach, like I want to try to shoot insects, birds, etc, I would go for DX.
Now the next big decision - when to buy my UW housing, for D300 or wait and continue with my S2Pro until D800 is out?
