you and your words, my friend.. are god sent. :p

but then do remember that early adopters usually pay a higher price....
no need to get frustrated..... if the camera can serve your needs, then use it....
no point chasing the lastest camera... :)

I totally agree with you, but ... can I fast forward the clock and get my D700 now (at $2.5k)? 2 more years of waiting....

Besides the aesthetics, there are performance differences between the D700 and the D3 as well. Shutter life for D700 is rated at 150k shots, and for the D3 it stands at 300k shots. Burst rate differs also, with the D700 firing off at 8fps max (with MB-D10) and the D3 at 11fps. As I only had a working prototype, the lag time and image quality couldn’t be tested, but like mentioned, Nikon told me that most of the hardware and chances are that the firmware will be similar to the D3.

there's really no point moaning by those who bought the d300. it is highly unlikely dat nikon are phasing out DX. if they are true to form, probably next year when the d300's replacement is announced, a lot of the current D700/D3 (mebbe even the the fabled D3x) features will be in it.

at least now there's something sitting between the D300 (best of the DX cams currently) and D3 (FX). finally, they have caught up with canon ... and wat a way to do it. :)

me... i'm more eagerly waiting for them to start introducing more F4 lenses - something to match the canon's 24-105/f4L walkabout lens. oh well... 2 more mths to go b4 photokina... ;p

Just be happy with it. The D300 is still not only a new cam and capable cam. At the same time it is not being replaced by the D700.

The question is that do you really need a FX. For years even pros were shooting with DX format ie. from D1x to D2xs without much problems.

The introduction of the D700 is to give consumer more choices.

The technological chase and waiting will never end.

Be happy, shoot more and perhaps participate in this http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=386910 and who knows you can win a first prize (which hopefully be upsized to D700 ;p ). So far only 3 entries so your chances of winning or accumulate points for the grand prize is fantastic

Am too waiting for some f/4 zooms for travels but based on past Nikon roadmaps...

ain't gonna be this year.

They "usually" released about 3-5 lenses a year and we already have the P.C.s + macro
for year 2008.

With regard to DX, I agree that it won't be phased out so soon but my gut feel says it'll be sooner than what one thought / hopes.

When was the last time they came up with a pro DX lens?

When was there any catching up in the first place ....... :sticktong it is just a quantum leap ahead for the rest to catch up ;)

.....:

You are absolutely right. I still intend to get more mileage out of my DX equipment. I guess when it is time to move to FX body I will move, but now is not the time, IMHO.

FYI, I still have all my FF lenses since my film days, and they can be deployed anytime I get an FX body.

Hi guys,

Found this from Kho King with confirm prices you can order now:

D700 : SG$4681.82

But not sure about these are the most competitive prices, but at least a good indication on the expected street price....

Good price indication.

Just note that the camera has no Nikon Singapore Warranty or international warranty. ;)

i can just see some ppl selling away DX to switch to FX... only to spend more time on the computer doing post-processing... cropping the edges due to vignetting and distortion, dodging corners to restore some exposure...

the D700 is a welcomed addition to the nikon lineup. both the FX and the DX have their strengths, e.g. FX for wider angles and noise control, and DX for tele and macro... just choose the right tool for you...

I am waiting for a real SB 900 to come out.. right now hard to visualise how much better it is over the SB 800. Price difference quite high too.

Wonder what the "even, centre etc" thing is about and whether it will come into major play since I bounce my flash almost 99% of the time.

Hey, 150k vs 300k shutter life I won't be able to use in the life of the camera, if I say die die use the camera for 10 years.

Burst rate at 8fps is already more than double of what I used to have with MD-12.

So D700 is in my bag cost included in consideration the better camera than D3!

Now I must dig it and wait.

D700 is a must get!! especially those who own d300, why get stuck to a dx when you can get a cheaper but capable fx!!??

yeah...and dump that d300 at low prices to me too
so all you d300 owners who want to be d700, feel free to pm me =)

I HATE NIKON!!!

I upgrade to D200, 1 month later D300 announce.
