Travelling? D90 is so far the best for now because it can shoot videos also. ;p D60 is good but can be a bit front heavy when the 18-200VR is on....
... and compare it with film shot with Rolleiflex medium format as well? For that kind of resolution, I'd recommend ISO25 film.

if the noise level and sharpness is 'good enuff', at 24mp it would steal many medium-range pros who would otherwise find it hard to justify their 30+mp digital MF backs.
$10+k is very reasonable for commercial photographers...prob not worth it for wedding and typical events-in-singapore photogs of course, unless you shoot celeb weddings for a living.

Anyway, why do people keep focusing on photographers who plan to switch allegiance from another camera manufacturer? Why cant Nikon be focusing on capturing new market segments? How about beginners who intend to go into the DSLR segment? Start them young with the Coolpix > D90 > D700 > Higher?
Why focus on the Professionals who already know and have what they want?

Japanese are known to protect their market share, so guess they are not trying to undercut each other and spoil their market. At 24MP its for a niche market anyway, for most of us there is still a threshold of what we can endure in managing the files on our computers based on current norm in computing. If they lower it and the market get saturated after the novelty wears of and the pain set in or 'Hardisk inflation' increases, and the same time pushing down the lower ends....they are just cutting their own throats, they would not be able to raise the price after cutting.
As to why focus on Pro, it makes business sense to have a flagship model to make newbies dream and perhaps increase the branding prestige by association....but as I mentioned elsewhere, some would just jump into the high end even before they know what they want, but these are the ones with deep pockets, they can do what they want with their money. The top pros earn tons of money, so the 12K are small change, they can easily break even with the fees they charge.
