Canon G1X !

Some guy in dpreview said they can shoot 400+ shot without problem.

Maybe Jlee battery not fully charged? Brand new battery sometimes needs to charge for something like 6 to 8 hours, even if the charger show fully charged. What is the CIPA rating? I've found that to be quite accurate.

The macro capabilities is the same as any non-macro specific dlsr lens of similiar range. Why are people so surprised? No close-to-aps-c sensor sized cameras (including m 4/3, nex series or any dslr) with non-macro 4x zoom lenses can do decent macro or any sort. That's why i have to get the 250d close up lens.

As for the AF, if it's the same speed as my g12 as most reviews state, then yes... it's not very fast at all, but i wouldn't call it slow. No probs for regular street, landscape, portrait, architecture shots, but def not ideal for action sports, pets, or kids.

CIPA rating 250... most reviewers get around there including several full HD videos. Around same standard as most compacts, but behind most m4/3 and dslrs. Better grab a spare batt if you wanna use it like dslr!

Looks like I was quite spot on regarding the price and the release dates here.

I am considering this camera and Lumix G3.
Just wondering if it would be a fair comparison between this camera and the Lumix G3.

G3 is better in many ways.
1. Faster AF
2. Is as small if not smaller with the 14-45X zoom lens
3. Can use faster lenses if need be.
4. lower redundancy since lenses are used on next newer camera
5. large EVF as well as LCD

The G1X has one advantage over the G3, and that is the better IQ and high ISO performance from the larger sensor.
But then in lower light, the lens is slower than fast primes on the G3, so the G1X will have to use a higher ISO than the G3.
Not as clear cut as one may think of just sensor performance only.

So you have to see what is important for you.

I was initially pretty ok, with the G1X, as a big upgrade in IQ over the G12.
Only thing that wasn't that great was its slowish zoom (wish it was a 24-70/4 or 24-105/2.8-4.5) equivalent.
But with the Pentax K-01 out now, it seems not as good a proposition.
Its similar sized but with on-camera SR, but full APS-C (K5/D7K sensor) and has interchangeable lenses.
Priced only at $986 with a 40mm pancake lens which is really slim.
Compare camera dimensions side by side
Of course its bigger with a kit zoom though...

That's why I still carry my S95. :D Big sensors and fast lenses for low light and bokeh, small sensors for convenience and macros. No one tool fits all.

I tried the G1X at the IT Show, I think I still prefer my S95. It is quite cumbersome and IQ is good but not like my DSLR.

Tried G1X at the IT show.
Disappointed that there's "no" Macro and it's way to big.
The S100 suited my needs better.
Compact, 24mm, good zoom and there is macro!

Just got mine :)

Played a little bit with it. The AF is ok for me. But i am a NEX user so maybe dats why since it is also CDAF.

I am ok with the size. I also got a speedlite 320 (with the LED light). I think its a good fit for the G1X as the 430EXII is probably too big and 270 too small.

Bokeh not as good as i had hoped but at least there is some background blur.

Will play more tonite.

Did you get the speedlite from the show as well? How much was it?

I dun buy stuff from IT shows. Got everything from CP MS.

Oh, one pet peeve: the lens can be seen in the ovf even at full retraction.

That's common for these offset "rangefinder" style ovf. X100, x10, m9 all like that

It's pretty much the cheapest viewfinder you can think of, better suited for a $10 instant camera. :-P

Haha, I actually prefer ovf. Taking pictures with the LCD is unnatural.
