Canon G1X !

Something that may be of interest to you guys... I'm using the 270ex, and strangely, although it works perfectly for my g12, the pics come out very dark for the g1x... i have to bump up the flash ev by about 2 stops before it looks anywhere like the brightness i get with the g12 when bounced off my home ceiling. So if you don't already have the 270ex, i would suggest getting the 320ex at the least for more firepower. I myself will probably get one soon.

Well, as for me I intend to get the 320EX-II, the one equipped with a LED-video lights:thumbsup:...and hopefully there's no such:bigeyes:"strange-under-power" scenario:sweat:...!!!

Btw, thks bro for this important piece of info:thumbsup:...!!!!!:cheers:leh...!!!!!

May have to do with the default mode of flash exposure metering modes between the cameras?? "Evaluative" versus "Average" will get different results in many situations.

DPI is "dots per inch", 14 MP is 14 million pixels. They are independent of each other.

You can save your 8MP file in 400dpi too. Its just a simple matter of the saving format. In the old days when we wanted to scan photos for incorporating in posters/artwork, we made sure at the desired output print size, we had at least 300dpi. Regardless of size.

Which may mean an A4 size photo only needs to be scanned at 120dpi but a colour slide film needs to be scanned at 1200dpi, for an equivalent print of 4R. Or about 1400 pixels across in total pixels.

See the difference ??

Ya i know what dpi is and i know it has no direct relation to MP. I guess what i meant to say was if Sony could make their 16MP sensor output as 350dpi, why does the 14MP G1X only out put as 180dpi? Is it cos Canon could not or did not want to? Wouldn't we prefer if it was 350dpi? I am sure this has real world implications too as what you mentioned about printing although i am not sure whether you can really "up-convert" a lower dpi to higher dpi while retaining the same quality? Cos i remember once when i was sending something over to a printer to print at a certain size, they told me must be minimum so many dpi, otherwise cannot print. If a picture could be simply "up-converted" then why did the printer specify a minimum dpi?

Anyway, the gist is, i was surprised that the G1X dpi is much lower than the Sony which is of similar price. And my intention was to inform other would-be buyers or even current owners. Personally it doesnt affect me and i still love my G1X except for the long MFD and somewhat slow AF.

I am using 320EX for my G1X (i don't think it is EXII). Only 430 and 580 got EXII, 320EX a relatively new model so haven't Mk 2 yet.

You don't understand the concept. Period.

Some test shots all in jpeg not edited. I transferred it form my camera to iPad. Upload to photobucket. So the image quality might be affected.

That's quite severe ghosting...

Maybe I try upload again using my computer as I transferred it direct from the memory card straight to I pad. I suspect is the iPad issue

No, the ipad will not cause that lens flare and ghosting.

The ghosting in the pictures u pointing out is the lamp post right?
How to reduce it? Lower ISO? Or ?? Mind guiding me? Rather confused now.

:bsmilie:...:o...(hmmm...was previously a Canon user and it's been 3yrs thereabout...didn't really 'follow-up' with Canon's gears:embrass:...thought all flash revised to 'mark-II' already...pardon my 'imagination' went too fast liao:sweatsm:...heheheee!!!!!!)

Yeah, you're right bro...no 'EX-II' as it's still quite NEW I supposed...!!;)

Excellent article posted by rhino123. Relax, there could be many reasons for unpleasant lens flare or ghosting, and like the article said, under specific circumstances, ALL cameras and lens will produce those. However, the ghosting on you camera seems quite drastic and appears on multiple pics, so i won't be surprised if it is something as simple as an oil smudge (did your kid or friend's itchy fingers touch the lens?), or even dust... make sure your lens is absolutely clean, and ONLY wipe it with proper microfibre cloths please.

It's definately not a camera fault as my own (and a million other g1x samples i've gone through) don't exibit such characteristics. However, touch wood, if there's no oil or dust on the lens, and the problem still persists (try taking more shots similiar to the ones that ghost), then it's likely to be a flawed unit that you have on your hands... i hope not for your sake bro... let us know if the problems won't go away.

No leh... i'm pretty sure he don't have filter leh... if he have the filter adapter already i'll be super jealous!

Hahahahaaa.....me too leh...!!!...just thinking:think: maybe he was "manually"-holding a filter in front that's greasy or somewhat, if not, the output won't be this "bad-ghosting" and not unless the area whereby he was shooting were hazy/fog, but his pics didn't:nono: look like it leh...!! Btw, possibly be those very fine-water-droplets that "kissed:bsmilie:/sprayed" onto the front-element...(by wind blown...)...yah...?!?!;)

Thanks for the tip dude... tried all metering modes with no improvements. Only when i up the flash power or up the iso then can.

Hi all. Nope. No filter infront. The pics was taken day 2 of my new camera . Anyway I clean again the front lens element already. I will try out more shots and different settings. I will post again to see if it's really the camera issue. Is there any brought who stay in the east kind enough yo meet me up and help me see if it's really the camera issue? I am getting paranoid already
