Best walk around lens for Canon cropped body

What is your most used walk around lens for Canon cropped body

Results are only viewable after voting.

you can try shooting the camera upside down, in this way you will throw the shadow up into the sky or the ceiling.

when in post, just do a 180 degree rotate on the photo.

I believe you will still get the dark shadows with the lens hood off. Using a mounted flash will work, or alternatively, depending on what you are shooting, stand farther and zoom in

Thanks for the recommendation..

How come nobody vote 15-85mm IS USM this lens. This is a sharp and the best walk around or travel lens I ever used. This lens produced very good colour, accurate & fast autofocus. Important it is sharp at all zoom range. Below photos are taking with a canon 1100D in Kukup, Johor Pontian Malaysia during my last holiday. Just share with you guy. Hope you like it.:)

Sorry guy, if you can't see the picture. You can right click & select "open image in new tab".

I vote for the EFS 15-85mm. It's a great combination for weight, build quality, sharpness, and useful zoom range. If you need any wider u will need to get another lens for wide angle/fisheye.

It's more versatile than my previous 18-135mm, 18-55, 24-70, and all the primes. only 24-105mm on 5D comes close but distortion at 24mm annoys me so its sold.

EFS 15-85mm for travelling esp landscape. The extra true wide 15mm is really ease to use.

Even for daytime indoors, the F4 in EFS is sufficient..... unless its night time. Even then the f2.8 doesnt gurantee clarity.

Had the 15-85 first then added a 17-55.

Sold off the 15-85 because i preferred the 17-55's better IQ and constant f2.8 aperture. Furthermore, 15-85 uses a 72mm filter. Whereas the 17-55 uses 77mm filter, meaning that i could share ND filters with the 10-22.

Then again. 15-85's unique focal length and decent IQ comes in a small, light weight and comparatively affordable package at around $1050. Ideal for those on a tight budget or looking for a small all rounded general purpose lens for daily usage. :))

i started with the 18-200 kit lens, and got the 50mm 1.8, 10-22mm, and most recently 17-55mm. I love the 17-55mm with f2.8 and IS.

17-55 is great, useful, fast and reliable. love my 17-55 a lot but underutilized becoz no time to shoot.

the only reason i would sell 17-55 is going full frame which im thinking abt it now. my 17-55 focuses crazy fast and very sharp wide open. IS is very nice and really helped. mine is sitting in cabinet too. very busy

Second to member Magic Carpet Ride! 15-85mm is sharp and reasonably weight and size! Highly recommended!

Will be switching to EF 17-40mm L for my 7D. so this will be my walkaround lens

why not 16-35mm 2.8? Since its yr walkaround lens, u probably be shooting at any conditions. if you only shoot landscape, ok, f4 is enough.

15-85mm is the BEST standard walkabout lens!
A) I can use the built in flash, 17-55mm u have to switch to external speedlight.
B) the longer zoom is more important than larger aperture.
C) the diameter and weight of the lens is the right balance for any cropped sensor body.
D) very reliable lens.
E) search the Internet for the review, you be surprise!

the EF 16-35mm L F/2.8 II simply too expensive!:)

17-40mm f4 L is too short, can't zoom much.
The meaning of standard zoom... Versatile.
Not larger aperture or professional quality build.

2nd this. My humble 2 cents.

15-85mm is a very good lens, image quality is really good, to my amatuer eyes there's no difference between 15-85 & 17-55.

Especially this point "B) the longer zoom is more important than larger aperture." :D

But don't take my word for it, please take a moment to go through this excellent review.

I was testing the 17-55mm f2.8 using 650D at CanonLink@Vivo, it seems that no problem for the built in flash. Anyone can confirm this?

Am i right to say price of 17-55mm is about $1300 while 15-85 is $1100?
