The Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 has a fairly good build quality. Quite sufficient for most needs really. Better build may also translate to greater costs!

avsquare said:If only you are concerned with DOF play. The EF-S 17-55 is still a f/2.8 lens in terms of widest aperture, and it still allows 2x more light than the 24-105L. In terms of stopping action, the f/2.8 is still very valuable.
I do not agreed.. does it mean my s95 f2.0 lens allows many more times light than 24-105L f4 ?
My understanding is that the bigger objective len allows more light. I mean the lens opening diameter.
There should be 2 factors, not just 1 based on aperture alone.

Well.... for the price of 17-55, it should hv a metal body since 70 200 f4 also hv it...
yeah i only used primes now![]()
Dear all 17-55mm users, if you were to go Full Frame, which lens would you replace 17-55 with?
I'm using canon 17-55mm n loving it till now. 50mm f/1.4 is great too..

Windballad said:I think most 17-55mm users would go for a 24-70mm if going to full frame since 17-55mm technically translates to that range considering the crop factor.

For me is the EF-S 15-85mm IS, (eq. 24-136mm) covering wide 24mm to 136mm.
Why 17-55mm?
Sometimes when u need to use build-in-flash. 17-55mm will have "dark shades at the bottom of image due to the large 77mm lens diameter.
Not every time it's neccessary to be f2.8, la.
Look at Full frame sensor lens - 1D series got 24-70mm. 5D series got 24-105mm. APS-C got 24-136mm (with 15-85mm)
Did u use lens hood? If yes, remove it, it'll solve ya problem. Alternatively, use mounted flash..
