Best walk around lens for Canon cropped body

Why you choose 50mm f1.8 and not f1.4? Is it because of the auto focus motoring?

50mm f1.8 is ~120 and 50mm f1.4 is at cheapest $400...

From what I've read, some people have this af motor issue, some dont....so it depends on your luck. But for the $, I think most would go for Sigma 50 f1.4 which is also more expensive than Canon's 50 f1.4.

Another lens for canon mount to consider would be the sigma 17-70 f2.8-f4 os. Its for cropped bodies only.
