I am sorry that I have caused you an unpleasant experience in my shop. I could have been engrossed in some other things and did not notice your gesture.

I couldn't have discriminate anyone in anyway. I do my best to treat every individual equal irregardless of what they dress in.

Please accept my apologise and if you do need any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me, I can be reached over here .

Hi Chiif, I appreciate you taking the time out to apologise and explain the situation. I believe, on hindsight, I could have waited or return at a later time.

Thanks for clearing things up.

Yeah there must be something abt camera salesman and their calculators. Last week i drop by TK Foto and asked this available salesman who was also tapping at his calculator. I asked if he has any tripods that are below 1kg. He said no way, where go so light. I said I saw one Benro model which is 0.9kg with basic ballhead. He said that must be a lousy and flimsy one. I said but its quite expensive at ard $500.... He said "huh? $500? thats considered very cheap u know! its definitely not stable" ... and before i can ask him for some recommendations, he just looked down at his beloved calculator again.

Err.... ok so i learnt 2 things.... $500 a tripod is CHEAPO and the love affairs between salesmen and their calculators.

$500 can get you a very good tripod, I saw a Manfrotto that is 0.95kg and retails for less than $200. Could be the modosteady i think.

My experience (yesterday) with TK Foto goes like this, I asked for a class 10 SD card, the salesman doesn't seem very keen to sell anything to me, I wonder if it is the same calculator guy that served you.

I immediately went up to SLR revolution where Wenjie, a very efficient and friendly salesperson attended to me, I got the SD Card for $3 cheaper, I also bought a filter from him and he helped me clean my lens and attach the filter for me and he was extremely meticulous. Thumbs up for Wenjie and also Ray (who never failed to serve me with a smile)

There's more. My friend met me after my trip to SLR Revolution and we went to TK. This time, James served us and James was patient and friendly. I wonder if he knows about this Calculator Guy of his that is leaking revenue out of his front door.

My friend told me he never had a problem with TKFoto, but my answer to him is that he is somebody who spent more than $10,000 at TK and if I were any of the TK staff, I will also give him special treatment.

So Ocean bro, you might want to try checking out the tripods at SLR Revolution, or even Cathay as I think they are pretty okay. Good enough for me at least.

I went to Ben Photos after that and was really impressed with Jack's service! He's so friendly and doesnt force u to make a decision to buy immediately... he spent like 30min or more letting me play with his tripods and chit chatted along the way ... and he recommended me this $495 Benro tripod that i really like .. its 0.9kg with ballhead. Eventually I told him i will come another day with my camera+lens and bag with tripod holder to test it out before buying. He was still extremely friendly and didnt force me to buy on the spot.

Anyway I went back the next day as promised and bought it. Happy with my purchase and his good service. Definitely will frequent him in the future. As for TK, farewell. Never will step in there again. Maybe they only think that $10,000 is a worthwhile business.

I heard good things abt SLR, since u mentioned it here, maybe i will give it a try in the future.

Yup, I do frequent Cathay and one of the salesman there recognizes me, so its good to know a salesman there. Good service really. But sometimes their prices are higher, or they dun carry what i want, so i had to look elsewhere. Def will give SLR a try. Thanks for your recommendation!

No problem man, I'll also check out Ben Photos in future. I don't think you should boycott TK forever as James is a really nice guy. Maybe you can tell him about the Calculator Guy. ;)

I guess i mite be unlucky as went to a few shops with unfrendly service etc but will give my honest input fore experiences i got. This is for TK photo Funan. Went there couple of months back, wana purchase 85mm 1.8 USM. Chats as followed:

Me: Can i try e lens?
Sales: If you wan to buy den can try. (I felt weird as cant try even before i decide to buy?seems funny as most shops allow me to try even before deciding. Nvm as maybe its their policy)
Me: Whats e price? and sales quoted me just abit more den other shops, no probs as not carrot me alot.
Left e shop as wana decide my purchase.

Few days later due to no other shops has stock except the holy shop upstairs but quote me a higher price, i decided to get frm TK photo.

Me: Hi can i try the lens?
Sales: Same guy again say if wana buy can try.
Me: OK no probs i got intention to buy.
Tried the lens shot a few pics quite please with it. Begin to check the lens thoroughly.
Sales guy got abit impatient as i check the lens by looking through the lens to check for any defects.

Me: Can i borrow a Jet blower(watever you call it -_-)
Sales:Sure
Me:(i saw a white line across the lens when i see through e lens hole moving between light areas and shaded areas in e shop) There a white line across e lens sir.
Sales: Its dust.
Me: (I tried again and unable to jet blow the so call "dust" away) R u sure sir its just dust as its a white line.
Sales: U dun need to see so long one, e more u see e more dust get in as my shop here los of dust therefore wil make u more unhappy when u see longer e lens etc.
Me:(I tot to myself he isnt sure as wel as im not too sure but who wil be in peace of mind buying a lens lik this as it is stil money to me even less den 1k)
Me:Thank You Sir but i will not buy it.
Sales:(Nasty look he gave me) and say is ok you dun buy but it is lik that as is dust.

I really feel this is lousy customer service and also i do not feel good about the product like this.
P.S: So far already kana like 2 shops givin me such unfrendly services..mayb i suai go in when they having PMS period timing...

I brought my Canon camera from John years ago, as it was during a afternoon on a working day, so nobody in the shop. The service is great and he offer to keep the warranty card for me and tell me to sent the camera back to their shop if have any problems, they will help settle with Canon. Which i tot was good. Thumbs up

Recently, i was shopping for a small PNS camera for my gf, so went to John again and compared price. The boss was bz was so attended by one of the assistant, average service.

Went to TKphoto, they have the best price and the guy that served:cool: me was friendly. Mayb bcos i already tell him straight that i am buying a gift, so he knows i am not just checking price or window shopping. So my vote goes to TKphoto, for best price and good service.

Maybe if the item you want is not something you urgently need, you can order from SLR Revolution, MS Color (the older branch) or Cathay Photo. I never kena any PMS treatment from SLR or Cathay, maybe I am just lucky.

For TK's policy of "You Can Test Only If You Want to Buy", I believe there are two ways of looking at it. If the lens is removed from the box and tested a few times, it might show signs of use/being touched (however miniscule). But in this time and age where there are so much competition among shops, it might make business sense to not piss off potential customers with the kind of impatient/substandard service as described in your post.

I remember telling Wenjie of SLR that I liked his good service and his reply to me was "If you don't serve your customers well, they won't come back." My reply to him was "If only every salesperson think like you."

If only.:(

Actually also depend on salesman himself, for TK case maybe he met the grumpy uncle which i don't like to approach, i always prefer David who is very patient & helpful and always give me abit of discount when i go & get something from him :)

Yes bro, well i only ask to test if im seriously gona buy the item. At SLR a staff name Willy i applaud his customer service treatment. He advise me on certain things not needed at this stage as i was unsure and let me try out couple of lens plus telling me to go back tink it through a few days before i purchase e items.End up the following week i went back to him and purchase a number of items. This is what i call customer service and not sarcasm statements coming from some sales staff at other places.

I want to know if everyone who praised M S Color is referring to the original store in Blk 711 AMK. When I was out shopping for my 60D, I went to the AMK Hub branch first as I arrived by MRT. I was practically ignored, even after stating my intention of buying a midrange DSLR. In fact, they were more interested in punching the calculator and waiting for the time to come to start selling a $99 digital camera on promotion.

My wife and I were pissed off and immediately went off to the Blk 711 shop. We were warmly welcomed by a nice auntie and a teenager who knew what he was talking about. I got to compare the 550D and 60D side by side, as well as the kit lenses. I bought the 60D Kit III that day, along with a dry cabinet and a tripod, all for very reasonable prices. I am definitely patronising M S Color in future, but only that particular store.

How easy it is to spoil the shop's good name by having unfriendly staff in a new branch!

I think most people are experiencing better services at the Blk711 store.
The nice auntie should be the lady boss, Florence.
Saw a few complaints on the service provided at the AMK hub branch.
I would say that they are not friendly enough but not as bad as unfriendly.
Some customers(including me) actually prefer salesman not too friendly ;)
The staffs should be ok if u approach them.

Joy's Electromart at Funan where I bought my Nikon DSLR is not a shop I would recommend, in fact I would ask most to avoid. I believe it would be called a 'chopper' shop.

The one time I trusted a salesman, became the last time I would trust one.

Based on experience any shop that doesn't list their price in black and white should be suspicious. Even more suspicious if they change their prices on a whim.

DD Electronics is one I could recommend. Service is pretty fast and good. However prices for items can vary a lot, and may be even more expensive than other places. But at least they have their prices in black and white on their website, and would update you if their prices change.

My personal experience with MScolor is pleasant only when dealing directly with Florence.
The other staff all gave me lousy prices and so-so attitude only. Hope they can improve.

Anyway, nowadays, I prefer to go to TK and Iphoto. DDelectronics not bad for certain items.

i will have to agree. i was initially told by a lady from amk-hub shop that d700 was out of stock. but Florence replied (via e-enquiry) that they have stock. so i ended up going down twice. thanks to their e-enquiry. i sent numerous emails to confirm stock plus other enquiries and Florence was really patient to reply. Florence and the old man at Blk711 store was very pleasant on the day i finally got my stuff.

Lets say you have been quoted a lower price in another shop, but you prefer to buy from Cathay. Will the salesman entertain you if you ask them to match the price you have gotten from another shop?

The salesman must make a phonecall if he want to lower the price for you... which he rarely does. However, you can email them and the guy giving you the equotes has the power to match the price. They have matched the price for me many times. :D

Hi, do you mean the cathay guy has matched a lower price that was quoted to you by another shop?? tks!

Yes. The last big item was my 550D. They matched SLR Revo's price and threw in a screen protector. :)
