You are right, its the principle that matters.

Not only cheating $35 but also selling at cut throat prices.

I had thought that perhaps I should give Samuel some consideration especially when he seems so busy and that the shop seems to have good reputation and named after a Holy man.

Its so eye revealing ........ how unscrupulous ........ inconsiderate ....... heartless ....... Samuel and the shop John 3:16 is !!!

Hope fellow readers take care.

True.

However, at times it is the principle that counts.

If Sxm is sincere, he could simply tell him that it was not available upon seeing TS's arrival without making TS waiting. TS was polite and patient to wait.

Based on earlier post: TS, may be you could bring a blond, white with you. Then he may attend to you immediately.

Good luck.

Well I can understand your frustration and unhappiness at the service (or lack of) you were afforded at the shop, using terms like "cheating" and "unscrupulous" is a bit OTT.

Those are just cold hard facts.

Its not so much a situation of at lack of service. There are many shops that at one time or other have lack of service ...... and I would just walk away and not be bothered by them, would'nt you?

Here is one Samuel and John 3:16 that is out to cheat, and unscupulously price their products, by his sweet talk and trying to give advise to win customers heart. Then when you are not alert enough or trust him too much ...... his chopper comes down. Thats the point. Thanks for your comments.

so far we have only heard from the aggravated parties. Someone should inform the shop to come onboard to defend against the accusation. Silence only tarnish the hardwork the father had put into the shop.

Why not we just stop harping on the same topic and move on? Haha!

Ok, in fact, I just went down to DD Electronic and bought my 7D body. Knowing it's a grey set, I had my reserves for the shop front and the stop tenders in it. However, like some of the other CS members had pointed out, that the shop is well organised, and had great customer service. When I mentioned great, I really mean it. I see them as happy workers which made me happy too.

Yes, I just joined CS not long ago and the thing about 'Newbies of the forum publicising for DD Electronics' is a common sight in consumers corner and such. But less do away with the bias thought that they are selling grey sets and warranty not recognised by CSC thingy. Firstly they have very competitive prices as we all know and secondly which I suppose most CS members who went there would agree that their service is really good.

So I suppose this count as a "Which shop offers a better price and good customer service?" reply? Haha. =D

I got a S90 Canon from DD Electronics from them since 2010 and no issues. Service was good. For items costing 3k+ i decided i needed official canon warranty.

If the accusation is without merit ie without proof, the
shop might just sue the party that make the accusation.
If there is undeniable proof, not hear say, then the shop
may just apologise or give a freebie or compensate the
accuser. Accusing any party of "Cheating" in public forums
is a risky business and one may land paying the price.

Buyer beware
Caveat Emptor.

I agree, anyway i feel all shops have their right to their own pricing. It is the consumer whom should find out and check before leaving a shop.

I recently purchased my camera and equipments, i asked for a breakdown on the receipt and i checked before i paid in cash and leave. Yes i know the shop is charging me more bey hey i am damn happy with the service.

Having a Caveat Emptor mindset is important.

none, I should say. In my own opinion.
Shops in Singapore DO NOT give customer service.
it's depends on what item you are going to buy.

BIG item mentioned, and you will be treated like king.
SMALL item mentioned, no one would bother you, or reluctantly entertain you.

it's fact of life.

I would not be surprised that Samuel had read everything said here ....... so what do you think?

As you mentioned he tried to entice me with freebies and even that he did not keep to his words. Guess you did not fully read what I wrote.

How many will actually come into this thread? We can have endless complains here and at the same time, endless queue at the shop, endless support from customers. Why do they need to care?

Singapore Penal Code: quoted form Wikipedia
Cheating – Whoever, by deceiving any person, fraudulently or dishonestly induces the person so deceived to deliver any property to any person, or to consent that any person shall retain any property, or intentionally induces the person so deceived to do or omit to do anything which he or she would not do or omit if he or she were not so deceived, and which act or omission causes or is likely to cause damage or harm to that person in body, mind, reputation or property, is said to "cheat".[98] For example, A cheats if he intentionally deceives Z into a belief that A means to repay any money that Z may lend to him when A does not intend to repay it, and thereby dishonestly induces Z to lend him money.[99] Cheating is punished with imprisonment of up to one year, or a fine, or both.[100]
Its a difficult to proof "cheating" without hard evidence. Even if you are able to, in this instance the cost outweigh the benefits. The persons who makes the most are the lawyers. The winners will get personal satisfaction but will burn a hole in their pockets. For small amounts up to $10k, small claims court is the best place to get justice, if you have the time and patience to go through the process.

I have done it once before for delivery of poor quality work and damaged to my property. I was free at that time, so had lots of it. But it was a real pain with harrassment, intimidation, explitives, with all the trimmings ......but no lawyers. I still had to hire the services of a chartered surveyor The only reason I went through was because they threaten me and my family. Otherwise I would have just negotiated and settled the problem.

Note that I am just stating a fact, not siding any party. I believe you went through the unfortunate experience and believe you were cheated and what you belief must be true. But the law looks at only hard evidence and the process is expensive and tedious. Accusing anyone in public is not always a good idea.

I don't understand why anyone would wait an hour to buy a camera, complain that the shop has colonial mentality, etc, but still buy. Masochism?

I also don't understand why people say that Cathay has good service, but only buy from them when they feel generous. I have always bought from Cathay, at prices that are better than SLR-R. You just need to get an eqoute and negotiate a bit through email. The shop manager does not have the authority to give you good prices. They assume that people who do research online will have access to emails and hence can get an e-quote. People who walk-in without e-quotes must be in a hurry to get something, and hence should pay higher prices? I always get served immediately at Cathay. No waiting, no sweet talk... Just good service and good prices.

I wont wait for 1 hour to be served to buy a camera. I will just walk off unless i can get 1000 discount for that camera haha.

Anyway i just got my H1 Zoom from Cathay Photo in Marina Square. Decent price and the sales staff was pleasant.

You don't understand because you did not read properly. Read my posting properly. quoted "...I eventually bought from the shop cause the nice young man who took over from him was kind enough to show a little more attention to my purchasing needs..."

If you are smart enough to get an e-quote & best the price from Cathay. Good for you smart -guy. But if you do not understand anything, ask nicely. Don't do a mental diahrrea and type out word such word "Masochism" and use it loosely... u understand the meaning of the word? It is bloody rude!

Depends.

Today I went to TCW to get a lens cap for my nifty-fifty, which I lost recently. When I was there, the staff went through the trouble to explain to me the difference between the different types of lens caps for the same lens model, even though I did not ask for it. Showed me the pinch type cap is better and cheaper than the original one because of ease of removal if I want to use a hood.....Attentive, patient and helpful. Even demonstrate to me using a hood, which I never asked for. (Btw, he did not even try to sell me that hood) I know most people from other shop will simply just say "Which model?" get the cap for me and say "$8, please pay at cashier" But not this shop TCW:thumbsup:

And you know what, the cap cost only $7-$8. I eventually did not buy that and went for the $12 original cap. Both types are original by Canon.

So it really depends, and that statement, I would say is 80% true. Because of my experience today, I can gladly say that TCW has won another supporter and I will be looking forward to getting my gears from them again in the future.

Yes TCW does provide very good service, very patient, especially the young guy that looks like he's from either japan or china. Too bad most of their gears are grey sets, if not I will frequent them more often

Ah.... I understand now. Thanks for clarifying. To sell something to you, the shop needs to abuse you, perhaps for an hour or two, then 'sayang' you. Better still... one guy abuse and the other 'sayang'? Looks like Samuel and friend did a fine one on you.

Did I miss something here? Perhaps you would like to clarify some more?

I don't know... seeing that you like to be abused, I thought you'd like it. If I'm mistaken, then I apologise. :bsmilie:

I went to Alan photo sim lim last week and bought a 50mm f1.8...i must say that the service from the salesman was good (forgot to ask his name-should be a 50 plus guy).I asked for a few item's price first and found that the lens rate was reasonable and decided to buy. Also asked him about a battery pack and he was kind enough to show me a set and explained all the accessories with it.That's the next thing in my list to buy.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:Alan photo
