Yes. The last big item was my 550D. They matched SLR Revo's price and threw in a screen protector. :)

Be cautious about 'great buys'

SINGAPORE'S IT mega events never fail to draw huge crowds who go for the great deals and gifts with purchases.

At the recent Electronics and Furniture Christmas Gift Fair held at Suntec City Convention Centre from Dec 17-19, electronics retailer Audio House came up with $29 great buys.

I came to know about a $29 deal for a netbook through my friend. Both of us wanted to get the netbooks and so we went there very early at 6am on Dec 18. The fair was to start at 11am.

When the doors opened, the netbook coupons were snapped up within seconds. When it came to our turn, there were no more netbook coupons left. Staff offered us coupons for digital cameras instead. We were disappointed, but as we had already queued for five hours, getting a $29 brandless camera was all right as consolation. So my friend and I bought the digital cameras.

But when I got home and opened the box, I was horrified to see that the batteries in the camera had long rusted and the battery oil had leaked and dried up. The camera also looked used.

How could a big player in the market sell such defective items? The other camera which my friend got was also not usable. We made another trip to Suntec to get our money back. The staff refused and were rude. They exchanged our cameras for another two. Again, both were not functional. So they offered to change it again.

We did not want the cameras any more.

After this incident, we would never trust such so-called great deals again.

No... they are the straight arm of crooked Bally. Somebody in ths forum dug out the ACRA records of the 2 companies. Apparently, there were similar names in the shareholding list.

Even so, its like people complaining about our much beloved P@P but still continue to support them in the erection because voters know they will get goodies in return.

... I have to disagree on this one.

I guess i mite be unlucky as went to a few shops with unfrendly service etc but will give my honest input fore experiences i got. This is for TK photo Funan. Went there couple of months back, wana purchase 85mm 1.8 USM. Chats as followed:

Me: Can i try e lens?
Sales: If you wan to buy den can try. (I felt weird as cant try even before i decide to buy?seems funny as most shops allow me to try even before deciding. Nvm as maybe its their policy)
Me: Whats e price? and sales quoted me just abit more den other shops, no probs as not carrot me alot.
Left e shop as wana decide my purchase.

Few days later due to no other shops has stock except the holy shop upstairs but quote me a higher price, i decided to get frm TK photo.

Me: Hi can i try the lens?
Sales: Same guy again say if wana buy can try.
Me: OK no probs i got intention to buy.
Tried the lens shot a few pics quite please with it. Begin to check the lens thoroughly.
Sales guy got abit impatient as i check the lens by looking through the lens to check for any defects.

Me: Can i borrow a Jet blower(watever you call it -_-)
Sales:Sure
Me:(i saw a white line across the lens when i see through e lens hole moving between light areas and shaded areas in e shop) There a white line across e lens sir.
Sales: Its dust.
Me: (I tried again and unable to jet blow the so call "dust" away) R u sure sir its just dust as its a white line.
Sales: U dun need to see so long one, e more u see e more dust get in as my shop here los of dust therefore wil make u more unhappy when u see longer e lens etc.
Me:(I tot to myself he isnt sure as wel as im not too sure but who wil be in peace of mind buying a lens lik this as it is stil money to me even less den 1k)
Me:Thank You Sir but i will not buy it.
Sales:(Nasty look he gave me) and say is ok you dun buy but it is lik that as is dust.

I really feel this is lousy customer service and also i do not feel good about the product like this.
P.S: So far already kana like 2 shops givin me such unfrendly services..mayb i suai go in when they having PMS period timing...

lol i know which guy u r talking about. recently, i bought 2 of my nikon trinity lens there and i've almost the same experience as u. ya he's not very good in servicing customers, nothing really wrong with him, juz that he's abit more impatient and insensitive.

anyway, tk needs to work harder in building better customer relationship. tk has always been my no.1 or no. 2 shop, i hope it doesn't fall.

Watch It If You Walk Into John 3:16

In Sept 2010 I purchased a Canon 5D II with 24-70mm f2.8L USM lens from John 3;16 together with an Sandisk Extreme 16GB CF card and B&W 77mm clear XSP filter. Unfortunately the shop is usually packed and I had to wait more than an hour to make the purchase through Samuel.

Those who have been to the shop will know that he seems very helpful and knowledgeable and most of all a “sweet talker”. His verbal quote to us after a little bargaining was,
Canon 5D II $3150
24-70mm lens $2170
Sandisk card $175
B&W filter $170
Total $5665

His strategy is to make you wait and tire you down. So when it came to time to pay, he had his assistant to write up the invoice (Samuel had consented to the invoice) and the total was $5700. There was no itemized pricing of the individual items and just 1 lump sum was shown.

As he looked honest and shop seemed to be well patronized, I trusted him and paid $5700.

When I got back home and checked the pricing I discovered the error. I tried calling him on the shop phone but it was never answered, no matter how many times I called or at what times. So I sent a simple email to the shop addressed to Samuel. There was no reply. I had to resend a few times before the shop replied to request me to go to the shop to speak to Samuel.

I went down and again had to wait more than 1 hour before I could speak to him. He said it’s “a small matter” and perhaps if I purchased another item he could give me a discount to balance off the $35 difference he overcharged me.

This is his other strategy, but I didn’t fall into his trap again. I had been checking his pricings with Cathay and was quoted without bargaining the Sandisk card at $140 (overcharged by $35 – 25%) and the B&W filter at $149 (overcharged by $21 – 14%). So whatever next item I buy next from him he will be sure to cheat me more. He sensed that I didn’t want to fall into his trap and he offered to provide a “very good Korean LCD display protector for the camera FOC” except that he had just run out of stock. He said that when available he will call me to get it fixed. Of course he never called me and after a month of patient waiting I went to John 3:16 to look for him. Again I had to wait more than an hour before he told me that the item was out of stock and coming soon and that again he will contact me. The same thing happened another 2 times until December 2010 and situation has not changed.

So John 3:16 – the shop, purporting to follow the teachings of the real John 3:16, but when you don’t realize it they will,

1) Deliberately overcharge you …….. even comparing with Cathay’s standard prices (not bargained yet!)

2) Deliberately cheat you by not itemizing prices in the invoice.

3) Give empty promised from sweet talking.

So take lots of care when you get to John 3:16 and Samuel.

All my 3 DSLR were from Sam. Initially his service is good, but it got quite upset when he left me waiting to attend to an angmo. I am buying a 7D and that guy checking out for a P&S. Such lack of priority disappoints me. I eventually bought from the shop cause the nice young man who took over from him was kind enough to show a little more attention to my purchasing needs. Nowadays, I do not buy from that shop, cause the prices accessories are not competitive anymore. I usually do my homework in CS before purchase anything. If i feel slightly generous, I go to CP. at least the guy I usually deals with lets me try any lenses I want, take time to explain to me what I am buying, and will not jump ship the moment he see an angmo.

You are right about Samuel, I didnt want to say it earlier but the moment he sees ang moh .... he forgets you. And have to wait at least an hour just to talk to him.

;(

Perhaps someone can start a new thread called "[2011] Which shop offers a better price and good customer service?" to replace this 2-year old thread.

Reasons being:
- Some store are no longer in business (e.g. Lord Camera)
- There are new shops that received good comments (SLLR, DDelectronics, etc...) that are not on the selection list
- Some highly rated stores received quite a few negative comments lately (perhaps those voted for them before would like to change their mind after their recent experience?)

Best Service: John 3:16
Best Price: SLR Revo

Nothing personal against Sam but this obsequious colonial mentality is still in a lot of people. I have walked out of a dive equipment shop that displayed such mentality.

Best Service: John 3:16
Best Price: SLR Revo

John 3:16 does provide good service but when i talk to them i can't help but feel that there is a certain "fakeness" to their smiles and service.

I will do it but no poll.

I agree that J3:16 has good customer service and satisfaction. I was attended by Samuel and i did not know initially as i am new to this shop.

I am willing to pay abit more for service. :-)

May not be the cheapest, but John 3:16 has some of the best customer service and satisfaction (at least from my point of view) compared to others.
Might have to wait awhile, but for some of the advice they dispense, I think its worth the wait

I could not agreed more. Did he tell u that he want you back and gave excuse about not refunding u instead???

DO note there are many J316's supporters here in CS and I guess J316 will be in business with his source of clients.

There were some thread about this J316.

You are absolutely correct AntiHypo, Samuel kept on assuring me that the item will be available soon and that he will call me when available. Of course after waiting for him for 2 or 3 weeks and not hearing from him, I went to look for him at the shop. After waiting for more than an hour, again another reassurance. This scenerio repeated for 3 months.

So for supporters of John 3:16, ........ Is it fair of him to firstly CHEAT me of $35. Also to charge so much more than other shops for same items? And keep on assuring (more like lying) me that item he PROMISED will be available and that he will phone me when available. Its now more than 3 months. Any shipment can go around the world 3 times in that period.

Sadly they are letting the real John 3:16 down

Am personally very happy with SLR Revolution..

in my opinion..one of the better Pentax-friendly shop out there...man to look for to me is Ray..

he entertained my barrage of smses regarding Creative light umbrellas in the day...and even giving me a very good low price....

went and collect...he was happy to let me scrutinise the umbrellas and even change one of the items due to discolouration for me with another one...

dunno y ppl keep comparing them with Bally so much...

same father but different siblings..doesnt mean both siblings are bad....Han Wei aint bad also..got my first Pentax cam from them...very patient dude..

$35 is not worth the 4 hours waiting time plus the effort it takes to make the trip down just to see his face.

Better spend your time taking beautiful pictures.

True.

However, at times it is the principle that counts.

If Sxm is sincere, he could simply tell him that it was not available upon seeing TS's arrival without making TS waiting. TS was polite and patient to wait.

Based on earlier post: TS, may be you could bring a blond, white with you. Then he may attend to you immediately.

Good luck.
