That's a bit too close for 50mm innit?! Nevermind that it's sleeping ;p

i like getting close with 50mms =P gives a very different perspective than what most people get.

Probably a specimen treated with formalin...

I think he fed it poisoned meat first and then took the close shot. They don't normally react well to DSLR mirrors clacking otherwise.

it was real, and very alive. but quite small, only about a meter long. they re not too aggressive, i'm usually more concerned that they get scared away by me getting so close, but i get ready to run away anyway.

this one was abit closer and with a tokina atx pro 17mm, but i wasn't exactly behind the camera =P

Hi Ben. Care to share how to you took the second picture? You placed the camera, wait for it to come closer and triggered it remotely? Those teeth looks sharp and can do some big damage to the camera & you too.

I put the camera on my tripod, and used the tripod as a boom to lower the camera down in front of the alligator. had to set everything manually and use self timer though, since i didn't have a remote that time. composition was tough to make out too, so had to take quite afew shots to get this one.

btw, I'm letting go a bunch of my nikon stuff, can take a look at them here:

very nice separation with the portrait lenses and bokeh is lovely as expected of classic Nikkor glass

Nice colors of the classic Nikkor 50mm Ais. Nice shot. Thumbs up.

I usually shoot mine wide open & never stop it down.

It is only a little soft but works for me when I use it to shoot kids indoors.

A few 50mm f/1.2 AIS did come up for sale. Also there was one or two 85mm f/1.4 AIS.

I switched to MF lenses to slow down, so that I can shoot & connect better with the subject that I am shooting. With cameras so highly automated, all that I do now is press the shutter & chase for the next shot.

Shooting with my 45m f2.8 Ai-P after a long break on the D600.

Mostly at f5.6 or f8, gate photo wide open. Curves adjustment on PS. The CS gallery's compression seemed to have tweaked the colours somewhat.
