the C/A looks so bad... wut a waste.

CA can be corrected...and can be done by not shifting the photo.

For a lens that cost more than the Tamron and Sigma, CA is expected to be very minimal. Maybe the Tokina images were taken with a pre-production sample?

Possible. In fact, I really hope so, because this lens is highly anticipated, and for Tokina to spend so much time to produce such a disappointing lens will really not win them any followers.

Damn looks like tokina cmi.

The wait was all in vain :(

Think so... :(

The range and f-stop is attractive but picture quality like cmi... Haiz...

Perhaps wait till local users try and see how before giving more comments.

According to TK, stock will arrive next week  , price still unknown. Price in Japan around SGD 900

In general, Tokina's build quality is better than Tamron. Additional 1mm wide + build quality and hopefully better performance than Tamron would justify the additional SGD 300 difference

so izit here already?

Review on photozone.com states that:"CAs (color shadows at harsh contrast transitions) are the primary weakness of the Tokina. At 16mm @ f/2.8 the CAs peak way beyond 2.5px on the average at the image borders. Stopping down improves the problem quite a bit without resolving it. At longer focal lengths the CAs could still be better at f/2.8 but beyond from f/4 onwards it is generally well controlled. Due to the mentioned centering defect the CAs are quite uneven at 50mm."

Well guys, how? Really bad CAs for a highly reputated lens...

It's actually not highly reputed (not reputated). It's just highly awaited, but turns out to be such a disappointment. Also, there's centering defects?

This is a disappointment... I had always love the Tokina's built... unfortunately, it didn't come with an optic that match the body.

BC

oh my goodness... CAs are horrible! What a letdown... Hehe at least i have my Tammy 17-50 =D

Just wondering if the sample reviewed was a pre-production sample or one that's commercially sold off the shelf?

The CA is worrisome and I don't know if this will dampen expectation among Pentax users when Pentax unveils their version. Why can't they tweak the edge sharpness?

I see the CA i sian liao. Now looking forward to K-mount Tamron 17-50/2.8 instead.

Hey owners of the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 lens:

Is your lens made in Japan or China?

Most are Assembled in china. Even those my fren tested when he was in Japan are assembled in China. But i believe the QC is decent. My copy is made in china and is functioning really well up to now.

My copy from TK is made in Japan. :)

I suggest sticking to the topic
tamron discussions should be done on that thread

CA can be corrected...
well yes, it can be corrected by it will take up loads of time if you shoot quite a bit.

btw sharpness can also be USM (unless really bad), distortion can also be corrected.
