I'm guessing he means "lens barrel rotates during focusing"? Hmm...

Hmm. Is it? Haha. I thought the Tokina was IF, which means the lens barrel doesnt turn like the Tamron and the Sigma.. :dunno:

Oh yuck. It's a major boo-boo on Tokina's part, considering the 16mm will be very useful for landscape usage with CPL.

The lens barrel will extend but the front element does not rotate. (This lens uses petal type hood BTW.)

Very rarely you find new lenses with rotating front element nowadays.

I use to think a lens without IF will have rotating front element when focusing.
This perception or concept is not applicable anymore because Tokina 100mm macro and also the Tamron SP90 does not have IF, the front element does not rotate also when focus.

to be precise, IF just mean the camera shift elements that are in between the rear and front element to focus... nothing more, nothing less...

I mean the front barrel will rotate...

No... it will extend but it does not rotate. All lenses that uses petal type lens hood cannot have the front element rotating. Nowadays, most if not all new lenses does not have the front element rotating.

The lens barrel will extend out from 24mm onwards. Initially before the release of any pics or info about this lens, I thought the lens barrel will not extend out to a certain length or at least extend out less that 1cm like the Tamron 17-35mm.

Is there any issues with the front barrel extending? I believe the extension is due to zooming but not focusing (this lens is internal focusing). Most zoom lenses will extend when zooming.

IMO, extension of the front barrel does not bother me at all. Even the Nikkor 17-55 f/2.8 extends while zooming.

Lenses have a certain number of elements arranged in several groups. Depending on the focal length, various lens groups would move, hence the need for the barrel to extend. Nothing unusual in this.
